Prologue
Saturday evening, the sun had almost set, leaving a beautiful orange tinge in the sky. The wolf in me wanted to burst out and manifest itself. I couldn't wait any longer.... I had to emerge... I had to manifest because at last the right time had come....
Chapter one.
Tring..tring.. tring...
"Jesus Christ!!! Who could be calling this late??" William Dayton checked his cell to find out that his partner Jack Sloan was calling.
With a scowl on his face he answered, "What!!"
"27B Crystal creek. Get your ass off your bed and come here right now!" Sloan barked and hung up.
William put on his pant, found his car keys and left for Crystal creek.
William parked his car and noticed that two police cars were already stationed outside 27B. It was a small cottage with sloping roof and a courtyard. He was led in by David. He saw Sloan scowling and approached him to view the crime scene. Sloan took him inside the bathroom. The vision would make even the most hardened cops to sicken.
The crime scene looked like it was from some movie shooting... Jennifer Paige's nude body was lying next to the bathtub, arms and legs wide open like Leonardo da Vinci's Virtuvian man. Her torso was torn open from the sternum till just below her navel. The rib cage was broken and it was noticed that her heart was missing, all her intestines were intact. No other injuries were found on her body. There was blood just around her body and rest of the surronding was pristine, not a single drop of blood anywhere else.
William looked strained and asked, "So what have we got?"
Sloan informed William that Jennifer Paige was 23 years old and a student at the New York University majoring in english literature, she worked part-time at the Starbucks two blocks away. She stayed with her room-mate Chloe who discovered the body when she returned from work. She was being interrogated right now. The house was checked, there was no forced entry, no broken windows and the main door and back door showed no signs of damage. Chloe informed the cops that nothing was missing from the house indicating that it was not a burglary.
William and Sloan debated on how the murder was commited? The torn torso looked like the work of an animal attack, the way any carnivore would tear open its prey. Both knew it could not be an animal attack, which vicious animal would come and commit such a clean kill in the middle of a concrete jungle like Manhattan? They had to find out.. Just then David informs them that all the prelimnary investigation was done and now the house was being swiped for fingerprints and that the body was being sent to the forensics.
William Dayton and Jack Sloan had met on the first day of their cop training at the academy and became the best of buddies. They graduated together and joined as partners at the NYPD narcotics department and slowly worked their up to become detectives at NYPD homicide because of their resilience and their exellent gut instincts. Both were in their mid thirties and enjoyed being a cop.
William was tall and atheletic, possessing considerable good looks with grey eyes and greyish blonde hair. Raised by his dad, he always felt the need for his mother's love and care. His mother had passed away when he was 10 years old and sorely missed her whenever he was presented with a tough case. He was of the thought that a womans' intuition is much stronger than that of a mans' and so felt that his mother would be able to guide him better. He and his dad possessed a cordial relation, both fond of each other but not like that they would sit down each day and share their lives stories. They lived together, William just couldn't leave his old man living alone in his grey years.
Jack Sloan was stout with dark hair and brown eyes and of an open bonhomous nature. He had married his childhood sweetheart Joanna when he graduated from the academy. He had a daughter with her who was just starting school. Lily was the apple of his eye, no matter how hard his day had been, going home to Joanna and Lily always cheered him up and made him forget everything that was wrong with the world.
