Chapter 4.
At the medical centre Katherine had already given her verdict to Dayton and Sloan. The murder was committed in the same manner as before and by the same person. She was killed in the early hours of morning around 4 or 5. And again nothing else could be found out from her body and so was sent back to her parents for the funeral.
The cops found her clothes, shoes and school bag discarded near the park in a dumpster. Apart from that no other evidence could be found. Back in office Dayton and Sloan began to wonder on how to begin their search. The difference in Julie's time of death and her disappearance indicated that she might have been held captive for sometime before the murderer killed her. So they thought they should begin their search by looking at any abandoned houses near the Park Avenue area, since the cops couldn't find anything else constructive enough from them to lead their search with. They took Dayton's car to begin their search for abandoned houses.
They scanned the entire Park Avenue area twice and could find only two abandoned warehouses and neither of them showed any evidence that it was used for holding someone hostage. By the time they had finished it was time for lunch. Dayton parked in front of a local deli and found themselves a corner booth. Dayton ordered for a hamburger, fries and coke; while Sloan ordered for some bacon and a corn cob with extra butter. The waitress took their order and left. She returned with their order in ten minutes.
"It's been almost 3 weeks and two murders and we have found zilch, I think we need to look for a pattern. Serial killers always have a pattern, we just need to find it. Ummm you've found anything that catches your eye?" asked Dayton munching on some fries.
"Your right. But I haven't found anything distinctive that could be some pattern. The only thing out of the ordinary is the manner in which this guy is going about tearing people I mean literally tear them open. Should be a real psycho huh..." replied Sloan.
"Sure is. Ah... well even I don't get it why he's going about killing these girls this way. God, even I don't see any pattern lurking. Do you really think this guy is killing like this so that the public would think some kind of a werewolf is on the loose, what with Twilight being such a hit with the young girls?" reflected Dayton.
"Tell me about it, even Lily keeps asking me to buy her the books and Joanna is like no baby those books are not for you, when you get older then may be you could read them but for now you have to be happy with your rhymes book. But thinking on those lines you never know man, these people get overly obsessed with it and may be then go about doing the same in real life. Most psychopaths would find it hard to delineate real and fantasy." said Sloan.
Dayton ruminated and said , "yeah could just be some pervert turning his fantasies to real."
Sloan replied, "Yes most probably."
They finished their lunch, paid and left.
Back in office they began to brainstorm about any possible pattern to the killings but came up empty, and began scratching their heads.
"What on earth are we going to search for? There is no murder weapon; no witnesses so no character description. We just haven't got shit to look for. The Chief's not going to be happy." shouted Sloan completely frustrated.
A fortnight passed and both of them were still looking for their needle in the haystack.....
