My eyes spring open from the loud thump at the door. I must've nodded off, it's quite embarrassing considering I haven't cried myself to sleep since I was a small child. Simon's coldness bothers me, I trusted him with my body and this is how he repays me. He's only the second man I've ever had sex with.

"Mia! Come on, we need to talk. Graves is here" Ghost calls out. Hearing his voice makes my blood boil, but I brush all the negative feelings away. I get up from the bed to let them in.

"How are ya? I'm Philip Graves" a blue-eyed brunette man greets me with a smile.

My eyes trace his body, noticing the differences in his uniform compared to Task Force 141's. Snapping out of my pity party, I shake the man's hand.

"We have great news, it's safe to take you home now so you'll be coming with us" Philip relays the new information.

For a brief second, I'm taken aback, I've gotten comfortable being with Ghost's team. It's going to be hard to trust new people but I don't have a choice.

"Thank god, I can't wait to get out of here" I force a happy face. While it's true I'm excited to see my family, I'm not so pleased with how it's playing out.

"You'll be reunited with them by tomorrow, hang in there" he tries to assure me that everything will be fine.

"I'm trying, it's been a hard couple of days," I say before looking over to Ghost. We awkwardly gaze at each other for some time.

"I think we should get her to base as quickly as possible. The cartels in the area will eventually come looking for her" Ghost turns to Graves.

He agrees with him, "Right, word go out that she's still in the country. We can't waste any more time". As the conversation continues gunshots ring out. A stray bullet pierces the interior of the cabin, almost striking me.

"Shit, Mia get down!" Ghost pulls me towards the ground and covers my head.

The Shadow Company returns fire and in an instant, we're in the middle of a battlefield. Graves and his men showed up just in time, there was no way Task Force 141 could handle this onslaught on their own.

We all retreat to the back of the cabin and away from all the windows. "They fucking found us, Alejandro! help me block the door" Soap uses the living room sofa to barricade the entrance.

All the muscles in my body tense up, and I'm shaken to my core. I can't even speak or think straight. My hands clench Simon's arm, pulling him closer for safety. We all look to him for direction.

"Out the back! We need to get out before we're surrounded" he sprints over to the back door to check if it's clear. Thankfully they haven't gotten that far yet.

"Mia, stay by my side" Simon makes a break for it, pulling me along. The rest of the team except Graves follows closely. He has to stay behind with his men.

As we escape into the dense forest, my protectors form a circle around me. Danger could come from any direction. I run the fastest I've ever in my entire life. The loud bangs of automatic weaponry slowly fade as Ghost leads us deep into the wilderness.

"Are they still following us?" Gaz pants like a dog. The team temporarily stops to regroup and look at their maps.

"Graves men have them held up, they weren't expecting them to be here" Soap responds sounding relieved.

Alejandro, being a native quickly comes up with a game plan, "We can use the backroads to find our way to the Cabo, Mexican forces are occupying the area. I can get them to help us".

Ghost nods in agreement, "Alright, we lay low until we get there".

Standing against a tree, I clasp the side of my leg in agony as they discuss what to do next. Now that the adrenaline rush is cooling down I feel an awful burn against my right calf. Without warning, I burst into tears and fall to the ground.

"Mia?" Ghost dashes over and his attention is brought to the stream of blood. He examines the wound while also trying to comfort me.

"Don't tell me they fucking shot her!" Gaz's eyes nearly pop from his head.

"Nah, it's just a graze. Pretty big mark though" he sighs at the close call but my reaction isn't as tame. I try to keep my weeps quiet but the pain is hard to fight. The injury resembles a giant scrape but deep, like a knife gash. It's bloody but not enough to be life-threatening.

"Hey look at me, you're fine. It's just a scratch" Ghost wipes the tears from my cheeks. I have to admit it feels good to get his affection after what happened in the cabin.

Alejandro hands over a roll of medical gauze, "get her wrapped up. We need to keep moving".

I brace for the incoming pressure as he swaddles the wound tightly to stop the bleeding, "Shh, I know it burns. I've been grazed over a dozen times. I get it but we have to do this". Slowly but surely I regain composure. It still hurts like hell but I focus on the current situation. I'm still able to walk but I need Ghost's arm for stability.

After a brief moment, we get back on track with the plan. Using Alejandro's knowledge we navigate through the unfamiliar land, knowing it could all go to shit at the drop of a hat.
