CHAPTER 2

~End of summer~

3rd Person Pov

It is the end of summer now, schools are due to open up soon. Destany is on her way back from shopping at the convenience store for last minute ingredients for dinner. She takes a shortcut through the neighborhood, that goes right past the santos safe house. Destany fastens her walking speed as she tries her best to ignore the men catcalling her, but she slows down when she notices an all to familiar face. She snaps back into reality and scurries away, slowing down the closer to her house she gets. Destany sighs and walks in and puts the stuff away. She hears what sounds like yelling from Ruby's room, she walks over there "Ruby, os everything okay?" She opens the door and walks in, she immediately recognizes one of the voices as Ruby's only female friend. She squeals and hugs the younger female "dios mio! Monse, i've missed you!! And oh, you looks so good!!" Monse says a quick thank you before Destany speaks again "OKay, now that, that's done. I heard yelling, what's the problem?" Jamal then speaks up "Kay so, monse keeps asking about cesar and why he's not here, and how we need him to survive highschool! But Ruby and I disagree" Destany sighs and looks at Monse "Monse, sweetie, its best you don't know what happened... And as far as surviving high school, you can do it with out cesar, okay?"the elder kisses her forehead and leaves the room promptly. Destany then goes to her own room to relax a bit.

After about half an hour, Ruby sticks his head in and announces "Hey, Monse, Jamal and I are going to head over to the school for orientation." Destany nods and replies with "Okay. But be careful, I don't want to have to explain to mama the reason you have a black eye okay?" Ruby hums and and closes the door before leaving the house. Destany stays in her room a bit longer before she leaves to go start cooking dinner. Her mother, earlier in the day asked her to make enchiladas, so that's exactly what she is making now. Though it is a few hours til dinner time, she has to make the sauce and stew the meat before hand.

~Destany's Pov~

I've been cooking for about an hour now, just as I get the kitchen ready to assemble the cheese enchiladas for our little brother and sister, Ruby walks in looking annoyed and tired. "Hey Rubs? come help me roll the enchiladas please? I'll let you rant about whatever is bothering you" He nods and washes his hands before walking over to where I'm standing, he then begins to rant about the fact that Monse wont drp the whole cesar situation, and that Jamal and him weren't telling her to protect her from getting her feelings hurt. Once he's done ranting I say "Though I agree with what you're doing is right, I also agree with Monse, that she has the right to know. But I love that you're protecting her from getting hurt, being hurt by people you thought were your friends hurts more than it does if it was a stranger." I kiss ruby's head before I start putting the rolled cheese enchiladas in their own pan. Soon the chicken for the enchiladas were done, we then got to rolling them as well. ONce done, both pans were put in the oven.

After the food was in the oven, I start making yellow rice to eat with the enchiladas. Once everything is done I put both the stove and oven on low, to stop the cooking and keep the food warm.

~Time skip (1 hour)~

My parents come home from work, I take the enchiladas out and set them on the dinner table. I then take a serving bowl and shovel half the rice into it "Ruby!! Come help me set the table!!" Ruby comes out his room and get the plates while I grab the forks and knives. Everyone washes their hands before sitting at the table, just before eating, my grandmother says grace. I wait for every one to get a serving of food on their plate before I get some myself. As we ate, we all talked about our days, well the twins (luis and luisa) weren't, they too busy eating off of each other's plates. Soon everyone had finished eating, My mom and I collect the plates as well as the utensils. I set the plates in the sink before putting the leftovers away, packing some away for my parents to have for lunch tomorrow.

ONce everything is packed away, I put them in the fridge. I kiss my moms cheek as I leave the kitchen "Luis, Luisa, come. i need to clean you up" They both giggle and run into the bathroom, I follow them, helping clean their hands and faces before helping them brush their teeth. As soon as their clean, they run off into their room, giggling and pushing each other. I then wash my own hands to rid them of the unknown germs the twins might carry, I dry my hand and head towards my room; but just as i'm about to open the door, Ruby grabs my arm and pulls me out the house. I finally get my pace to match with his "What the hell Ruben?! I was going to my room!" Ruby quickly replies with "Well Jamal just texted me that he told Monse what Cesar said, and now she's going to confront him" When I fully processed what he said, I start to jog to Cesar's house. Just as the house came into view, I notice Monse already straddling Cesar, trying to smack and punch him. I grab her arms and pull her off of him, I pull her a safe distance away, I hold her arms down as I scold her "Monse! I get that you're hurt by what he said, but you get no where in life if you beat the people who try and hurt you" She scoffs and pulls her arms from my grasp. The boys pull her to them and try to calm her down. I look down at cesar, who has sat up from laying on the floor "Count yourself lucky, You say some vile shit like that again. I will not pull her away" He looks down at the grass, obviously ashamed. As I walk away towards the kids, I hear someone laughing, I turn back to see; the one and only Oscar Diaz, laughing his ass off like the whole situation is a comedy show. I roll my eyes and look him dead in his eyes "Ay! Cabron! Teach your brother some fucking manners!"

After that whole thing, I pull Ruby with me, away from that house. I did not want to near the house and the diaz brothers at the moment. Jamal and monse walked the other way toward their own homes. When we get home, Ruby goes to his room, after just finding out he had to share with our abuela because her room was flooded, as well as staying their til everything has dried up. I'm too tired to go to my room so I lay down on one of the couches to recuperate my emotions from the whole incident. I end up falling asleep on the couch for the night.

A/N; How was this?? It is technically the second half of the written down version of chapter 1. I had to half it because it was too much for one chapter. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter, I'm off to wrtie the next one!
