I didn't know how I was supposed to tell my mother about going to hang out with some stranger every day to find out who killed my girlfriend. I needed a plan before we could even get started with our work. For some reason though, I put my full trust in Blaze. I did not question him or even find him suspicious. But I had to tell him about my mother worrying about me.
Before I went home for the night, I explained to him that I had a mother that worries a lot and she would find out if I was sneaking out.
"Well, what do you bloody expect we do?" He asked. I had a plan, but to be honest, it was terrible.
"Since I'm off from school because of winter break, I can invite my friends to my house. So I could just say that you're a student from my school that moved here from Australia." I said. He looked puzzled.
"You want me to pretend to be a high school student? Are you tuggin' my leg right now? That's the greatest idea ever!" He said, enthusiastically.
"Go ask her tomorrow if I can come over, let me do the talking, just nod your head and follow along," he said. "And, one question I have... Is your mom a spud?"
"A what?" I asked
"Sorry, in American literature, it's called 'hot'. So, is she 'hot'?" He asked.
Was he asking me this right now? I couldn't believe it.
"That's for you to decide, I guess." I took out my phone and looked at the time.
"I gotta go home, Blaze. Before my mom wakes up. I'll ask her about you coming over in the morning." I headed out the door and back home.
The next day...
I woke up to the strong smell of bacon and the sound of sizzling was heard throughout the house. I got out of bed and trudged into the kitchen. My mom turned around and looked at me.
"Good morning! I figured once I put the bacon on you would come running in here," she said, laughing. I hugged her and sat down at the table. Crap, I gotta ask her about Blaze.
"Hey Mom, I was wondering if one of my friends could come over today." She looked at me, puzzled.
"I mean, yeah of course! It's just... you haven't had friends over in a while." Sadly, she was correct. Ever since the incident, I haven't contacted or talked to any of my friends.
"Is this an old friend or a new one?" She asked.
"A new one, his name is..." Oh no, I've got to make up a name! "Well, we call him Blaze because he is a transfer student from Australia. It's kind of a joke because Australia almost burnt down that one time." I explained.
"Wait, he is from Australia?" She asked.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool huh?" I said.
"Yeah, he can come over if he wants to. Just don't break anything, okay? Can you watch this stove for me? I have to use the restroom."
"Yeah, I will." She kissed me on the head as she was walking by.
*Knock*Knock*Knock*
Someone was knocking on our front door. I got up from the table and walked to it. Wait, what if it's those government people? I tried to look out of a window to see who it was. I barely saw a sliver of blond hair on the person knocking on the door. No, it can't be. How did he find me? I opened the door. And there he was, Blaze. He was holding a bouquet in one hand and his phone in the other.
"Ello mate! Is your mom home?" He asked.
"How did you find me? You were supposed to wait!" I loudly whispered.
