Once upon a time, long ago, at the very beginning of it all, there was a single spark. Small, seemingly harmless, but that little spark grew to eventually create the first primordial being, what we all know as life today. That small light was the first spark of life.

We call her Vita, and she was the mother of the world.

And from her, the opposite must also be created, and that was how Mors came to be of existence, the primordial being of death. One cannot exist without the other as all that will come from their separation is ruin, and so, between Vita and Mors, the first children were born.

Embodiments of everything we know today, beings that made the world to be what it is; Justice, wisdom, health, nature, beauty, greed, and so on.

For millennia, they lived in peace, shaping life and giving it meaning, until eventually, a new branch sprouted from Vita, the embodiment of creation, Creatio.

Creatio was born with a gift unlike any other; the power of Essence, the unseen force that stirred beneath the fabric of the world. And with this birth, a new era began.

Vita and Creatio worked together to refine the world; the sparks of their labor weaving Essence into the soil, the sea, and the very air, until from it rose the first mages, the original mortals. They were beings who could touch that current, draw it into themselves, and bend it into form.

Seeing these unique creations, Vita grew to love them. And in her joy, she shaped more beings, this time without Creatio's gift, and thus, the first humans were born. They could not touch Essence, but Vita cherished them all the same.

The mages, proud of their bond with the world's lifeblood, believed themselves superior. In their hubris, they wrenched a piece of the earth skyward, suspending it above the clouds to serve as their dominion and they named it Andreas, the floating jewel of Ionia, the first and last city of mages.

All the while, the humans continued to live without a hint of any magic on the surface of the earth, only being able to look up at the floating city above them, and writing stories about what they imagined it to be like.

But no story lasts forever, and so, the age of the mages was bound to come to an end sooner or later.

No one knows what happened that day, but it is evident that there was a disagreement amongst the mages, and that one disagreement led to their ultimate downfall. Due to a scuffle in the areas that kept the city upright, Andreas was thrown off balance, leading to its fall.
