Burgess POV

As I open my eyes, I see Adam staring out the window, his eyes red and puffy. "Baby, please don't cry," I said.
"I'm okay babe, I promise," he said back.
"Can I ask you a question? I need you to be completely honest with me," I said.
"Yeah, anything Kim," he said a little confused.
"When the man kidnapped me...." I was trying to say, but Adam interrupted me.
"Wait, you remember?" He asked, hope in his eyes.
"Yeah, most of it. Anyways, the man said that this is payback for what you did to him, what was he talking about baby?" I asked, tearing up as I talked.
"Baby, I'm sorry. I was going to tell you that night that there was a guy after me for arresting him a while back, when I first started the job. I'm so sorry," he said, his voice cracking. I wanted to say it's okay, but I was too shocked. "Adam...."
"No baby, there is no excuse. You almost died!" At this point he was bawling. "I almost got you killed! I'm sorry baby, I'm so so so sorry. I have to go, I love you so much Kim," he said as he started walking out the room. "No baby, please don't leave! I need you Adam!" I shouted, bursting into tears. "I am not mad at all, you didn't do this to me! Please Adam, please! You can't leave! Don't go!"
"Kim, Kim, it's okay baby, I'm right here. I'm not leaving, I promise babe. Don't cry darlin' please. It's okay Kim, don't cry baby," Adam said, as he came over to the bed and cuddled me.
"It's not your fault, but now what baby? Please don't ever leave Adam," I begged, still sobbing in the process. "I'm scared Adam."
"Hey baby it's okay, I'm always here to protect you. Don't be scared Kim, it's okay darling," Adam said. We just sat there in silence as I sobbed. He kissed me on the forehead and I let him cuddle into bed with me. I slowly fell asleep in his arms.
