Some time in 1978,
As me and Jimmy ran out of school, celebrating our last day of school ever, he dragged me to the top of the hill where the sun always set.
It's orangey glow warming my face as we led down, my head resting on his shoulder but just as I was beginning to settle down, he shook me off of him, jumping up and down,
"What is it, Jimmy? You've been like this since we left."
I looked up at him with a grimace.
"Wait. Just wait. I'll be back in a minute." He chuckled before he ran off done the side of the hill.
When I began seeing his head bob up and down as he came up the other side, he brought a brand new crème moped with blue and red stripes down the sides and a stupid amount of wing mirrors,
"Ta da!"
He laughed as he reached me.
I looked at him with a growing smile on my face,
"I cannot believe you sometimes, Mr. Cooper. Have you seriously spent most of your money, that was meant for food, water, might I say, on that bike?" I did hold a serious tone but his smile did stop me a little.
"Yeah. It's cool though, innit?" He pointed to it.
He nodded.
"Honesty, it is quite cool." I gave it a look around. "So, you wanna be a mod then, do ya?"
"I do. And I've already got some mod mates. Maybe you could come along the next time I go, if you'd like." He smiled to me.
"Mm, I'd love to come along the next time you go. Sounds like fun." I chuckled as we just looked at each other in silence.
"Um," He broke it. "Well, we better get you home, eh?"
..............................
We sped through the town center, wind blowing through my hair, he chuckled to himself before waving his hand at a passer-by.
"So, where'd you get this from then?" I shouted over the engine.
"A mate of mine owns a garage downtown. He got this for me." He answered.
He turned a corner sharply as I squealed, gripping his waist tighter making him chuckle,
"Whey! Woah!"
He started swerving on purpose.
"Jimmy, you bastard." I laughed.
His face dropped as he looked into his wing mirrors,
"You alright?" I turned my head to him, confused.
He didn't answer, just stared into the mirror.
"Nice bike, mate!" A biker jeered from beside us as a massive group of them came up from behind.
"Fuck off!" Jimmy responded, shouting.
The group descended in-front of us as I began to feel so relieved. He just kept a straight face as we finally approached the back-alley to my house's front door.
"Cheers for the ride, Jimmy." I tried to cheer him up a bit as I climbed off of the bike, kissing his cheek as I took my house key from my purse.
He kept his straight face,
"S'alright."
"Ok, well, I'll see you tomorrow night then, for the club." I sighed. "See you later, Jim."
"See you." He said before he revved the engine and sped off.
...............................
Once I shut my front door, I wondered about Jimmy. What got up his arse? Obviously I know that some bikers did come close but that shouldn't be a reason to have a face on while you're with a mate, at least I don't think so. I wouldn't, but all I can do now is hope he brightens up by tomorrow night.
God, I hope so.
