The next day, when I was leaving my job for the night, I noticed a scooter down the road that looked a lot like Jimmy's. As I was going that way anyway, I decided to have a bit of a look at the brightly-coloured thing.
Then I noticed that the bloke sat on it was Jimmy. I was too close to the bike and too far now from turning back so I began to wear a small smile on my face as I approached him,
"Alright, Jimmy?"
He looked in his wing mirror as he noticed me,
"Alright, Mills." He turned to me with the same smile. "Look, I'm sorry about the party, an' all that. I was just being a bit of a prick, and all this Steph lark-"
"Don't worry, Jimmy." I said, genuinely. I meant it. "We all do stupid stuff sometimes, just some of us don't think about the consequences."
I chuckled as he blushed lightly. A s a silence was happening, I decided to break it.
"What you doin' around these parts then?" I asked.
"I came to see you, actually. Just to see if you wanted a ride home?" He looked at the floor.
"Sounds good."
...............................................
Cold air rushed to my face and through my hair as he drove us through the town, bypassing all the bright shop windows and banners.
"Mills?" He asked, as I could see him turning his head slightly and shouting something, but I couldn't for the life of me work it out.
"What?" I shouted, attempting to see if he could hear me. He held his finger up as if to say wait as he began speeding a bit faster.
Once he stopped on the pavement outside my house, he grabbed my shoulder and stopped me from opening the door,
"Are you goin' to Brighton this weekend?" He asked.
"Yeah, you?" I furrowed my eyebrows lightly at him.
"Yeah, who're you goin' with?" He kept asking questions.
"I'm goin' with Dave, he's hired a bike for the day. I think it's gonna be quite good, innit?" I smiled as I found my key.
"Yeah, yeah." He sighed. "You and Dave a thing now, then?"
"I think so. He's just nice and a bit of a laugh, isn't he."
"He's a bit up himself though, I think." He shrugged.
I scoffed,
"He's your mate though, Jimmy. No one's forcing you to be friends with him." I turned around, crossing my arms. "I wouldn't be with him otherwise, would I?"
"Suppose that's true." He ignored eye contact.
"You're not jealous, are you?" I chuckled.
"Course I'm not." He snapped.
"That's a pity, I thought you was." I joked, turning to unlock the door. "Besides, Dave told me that he's goin' out later with you, Chalky and Spider."
His eyes went wide but I continued to ramble on,
"I think he wants me to come alongside, like. I won't be in your way, I'll just be on the sidelines. Anyway," I turned to him as the door opened. "I will see you later, Mr. Cooper."
I smiled, shutting the door but as of then I needed to worry about what to wear for that night.
..............................................
Later that night, by the time Jimmy had come to pick me up and we made our way into the caff, I say the boys all stood around a pinball machine. When I made my way up to them, Dave turned around with a smile,
"Alright, darlin'?"
"Yeah. What are we here for anyway?" I asked him, curious, before Spider came to us with that stupid face he owns,
"Alright, boys?"
He always sounded so cheery.
Everyone looked at him with a groan as we resumed what we were doing.
"What are we doing about pills then?" He said a bit too loudly as Dave quickly turned to him, clearing his throat, signaling for him to keep his volume down whilst he pointed me as I had my back turned.
"Yeah, if we're going to Brighton, we're gonna need bloody millions!" Chalky chuckled loudly from the side of me as Dave huffed, making me chuckle.
"S'alright, Dave. You lot can do what you want, I don't mind. I'm not your mother, Dave. If I don't want to take some that's up to me." I patted his shoulder.
"Might as well be, Mill. He needs someone to look after him." Chalky smiled.
"Well, I want to get out me head for a start." Spider slurped his drink.
"Wouldn't be too difficult with your little brain, now would it?" Dave snapped at him as I laughed.
"I was thinking about getting a gun." Spider said as we all stopped what we were doing.
"Don't talk so bloody stupid!" Dave and I objected at the same time.
"Actually, here, I get my suit tomorrow." Jimmy said as he kept focus on the machine, rattling his arms alongside it.
"But it's only 'cause you want to screw Steph, innit?" Dave furrowed his eyebrows as he pushed in-front of Jim and began to play the game.
Jimmy exclaimed as he climbed onto his back, clutching his arms around his neck.
"Jim! Jim!" Dave shouted chuckling as he collapsed his front on the screen of the pinball game.
"Oi, oi, oi!" The bloke behind the counter shouted as he pushed back, Chalky grabbing my arms as the bloke forcefully pulled Jim off of Dave and told them to get out.
"We was only playing!" Dave put his hands up, stumbling with Jim before the two began walking out as Chalky kept his arm on my shoulder helping me follow after them,
"The tomato sauce is watered down, the rolls got scabs on 'em!" Jim shouted as a hoard of people followed him, pushing me back even further then it started stressing me out.
Dave laughed as he stood by Jim but but soon looked worried,
"Where's Mil?"
He shot over to Jim,
"Where's Mills? Mills?!"
"It's ok, she's here." Chalky walked me over as Dave hugged me.
"Quite a rush that, wasn't it?" I chuckled awkwardly, my mind still running back and forth.
"I promise to never be stupid again. To be beside you." He said, looking into my eyes before Jim came along behind him, with the same shit-eating grin he always had,
"The GoldHawk anyone?"
Never be stupid again, indeed. I thought.
