"Lilyleaf!" A tiny squeak awoke her. It was dawn, and her pads ached from the journey a day before.
"What is it?" She grumbled, her eyes flickering open. The soft light of the moon shine high in the sky. It must have been sometime close to Moonhigh by the looks of it. Why wake her up in the middle of the night?
Slowly Lillyleaf rose to her feet, shaking off the spare moss that clung to her pelt. Her head pounded for a moment. The words of the prophecy gently whispering in her ears. Lillyleaf shook her head, banishing the headache.
Slowly her head poked out of the den. "What is it?" She asked grumbling, looking down, to see Deerkit.
"Hurry!" He mewed urgently.
"What do you want?"Lillyleaf asked harshly, wanting to go back to her nest.
"It's Lilacpelt! She's having her kits!" He told her. Lilyleaf's eyes widened. She opened than closed her jaw quickly.
"I'll be right there," she said slightly panicky, Lilacpelt shouldn't have been kitting for another couple days! Her nose perked up at the scent of Willow bark, rare, but useful. Lilyleaf gathered up the the small amount of herbs and burst out of the cramped den.
"Breath Lilacpelt!" She muttered and placed a stick near the pregnant cats muzzle. "Now bite!" Lilyleaf urged her. Lilacpelt groaned in agony and bit down on the stick hard, almost making it splinter. Lillyleaf felt the small yet slightly bulged belly. "It's to early," she muttered under her breath as the stomach convulsed. Sending a shiver of pain through Lilacpelts eyes. A small kit came onto the moss, Lillyleaf nudged the tiny she-cat towards Goldendew. Another convolution gripped Lilacpelt as a tom found its way out into the world. Lillyleaf nipped at the birthsack and licked the mewling little ball of fur.
Lilacpelt lay there panting, the birth of her kits had gone without herbs, a risk. But Lillyleaf didn't have enough herbs to spare. "Starclan, protect these kits" she murmured softly, hoping Yarrownose, her mentor would get her prayer. Shakily Lilacpelt breathed a sigh of relief, the kitting was over.
"Good job," Goldendew murmured to Lilacpelt, nudging the female kit towards the queens belly. Lillyleaf nudged the other kit towards Lilacpelt, hoping that he would find his way beside his sister.
"It's alright," Lillyleaf mewed softly to the new mother. "I have a poppyseed I can give you, if you have trouble sleeping,"
"I think I'm good for now," Lilacpelt purred sleepily.
"I'll keep the kits out of the den," Goldendew mewed and went outside with Deerkit and Sootkit, the rambunctious pair was already too big for the nursery.
"I'll leave you be for now," Lillyleaf mewed and went outside, the clearing was covered with snow. The white dusty flakes dusting every aspect of the camp.
The fresh kill-pile looked slightly frozen. The pickings were slim. A single vole rested at the base. Her eyes tracked the leader inching towards the single vole. "Cliffstar," Lillyleaf said, "there is something urgent I must speak with you about,"
"Alright," he mewed gruffly, "get it over with than,"
"Starclan has giving me a prophecy,"
"Oh really?" He asked slightly skeptical. It was like he believed the that Starclan had abandoned them.
"Yes really!" She hissed at her stubborn leader.
"Fine than, let me hear it," he said and sat down, his tail swishing side to side calmly. The sun started to rise slowly, covering the sky in a slight blood red tone. Lillyleaf felt slightly panicky, she fought the urge to unsheathe her claws.
"Three shall rise," her voice came out quieter than she had intend it to,
"Well? Get on with it then," The brown tabby mewed gruffly.
"two will become, and one shall destroy," she finished, the colour of the sunrise slowly changing to a pleasant orange.
Cliffstar remained silent. It looked as if he only had eyes for his paws. His tail remained still, Lillyleaf remembered him as an apprentice, he was always so serious. He was also one of the best fighters in the clan. Than he was a reliable deputy,
"Erm... Cliffstar?" Lillyleaf asked tilting her head. Yet he remained silent. Her paws tingled with the urge to poke her leader.
"Don't you have herbs to sort?" He snapped, and rose to his paws. Lillyleaf stared at her leader in disbelief.
"Y-yes," she said slightly shakily and scampered to her den. Her claws unsheathed and she finally snapped.
Lillyleaf tore at her nest, scattering bits of moss and bracken everywhere. "Why doesn't he take my advice?" She hissed softly to herself, hoping not to wake the sleeping clan. But most of the cats where already awake because of the kitting. But than again, it was fairly quiet. "Why doesn't he listen!" She took another swipe at the defenceless moss. "Why does he snap at me!" Lillyleaf gave up, sinking to her stomach, her den was now a mess, bits of bracken and moss scattered everywhere.
Lillyleaf took a deep breath, trying to clam herself. She couldn't lash out like that. Ever. If it happened when her clanmates could see her... Her fur fluffed up slightly as she shivered.
She didn't think they would see her as a medicine cat anymore. Slowly, she got to her paws and gathered up the moss and bracken into its familiar nest like shape.
Her thoughts drifted, soon they ended up on the topic of Lilacpelts kits. What where their names going to be? Also, she hoped at least one of them showed interest in herbs, she would need a apprentice soon.
"Hopefully," Lillyleaf muttered softly, as she drifted into unconsciousness.
