The early morning sun flickered through the bracken, Willowkit yawned and shook her fur. Her tiny claws working in and out of the nest.
"I'm becoming an apprentice today!" an excited voice from outside the den. Willowkits ears perked in interest. She poked her head out of the den and saw Deerkit marching proudly towards the fresh kill-pile. He grabbed the one and only piece of prey in the pile. It was as if he had forgotten about Goldendew, who was sill in the medicine cat den. She had woken up a day afterwards, but shaky and coughing. Lilyleaf still didn't know what had happened, and she was planning to meet with the other medicine cats soon.
The sky was covered in a hazy orange colour. The sun rose slowly yet surely. The small flecks of blue in the sunrise became more noticeable as the evanescence of the sunrise became known.
Willowkit walked over to Deerkit. "Congrats," she mewed kindly,
"Thanks," he said and puffed out his chest, the tiny thrush hanging from his jaws, almost touching the ground. "Erm," he said slightly shy, "would you like to share this with me?" He asked and set it down, spitting out some feathers.
Willowkit felt her ears growing slightly warm. "Of course," she purred and sat down, her fluffy tail swishing side to side. "And ya know, me and Bearkit will be apprentices soon enough," she mewed proudly, than bent her head down to lick her chest fur.
"I know," Deerkit said and rolled his eyes, he sat down and took a bite of the scrawny bird. Willowkit took a bite and chewed, the meat felt cold and tough.
"Prey must be hard to find right now," she mewed,
"That will al change once I become an apprentice!" Deerkit said cockily.
Willowkit opened her mouth to say something, but just then a voice rang though the clearing.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the great pine!" Cliffstar howled.
Deerkit licked his paw and drew it over his face, the brown tabby tom walked over slowly, his paws twitching with anticipation. Willowkit saw Bearkit walking out of the nursery sleepily.
"Bearkit!" She called, scampering over to him. "We can only watch from here," she said quietly and crept over to an shaded area where they could see the ceremony.
"Today," Cliffstars voice rang throughout the clearing, "we have two new apprentices,"
"Deerkit, you have reached the age of six moons," he continued, "and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you have received your warrior name, you will be known as Deerpaw. Your mentor will be Badgerstrom!" He howled as Badgerstrom stepped forwards.
"Badgerstrom, you are ready to take your first apprentice. You had received excellent training from Appleheart, and have shown yourself to be a great hunter and a loyal warrior, you will be the mentor of Deerpaw, and I expect you to pass on all of what you know to him."
Deerpaw touched noses with Badgerstrom. Badgers form raised his head proudly and than stepped back into the gathering of cats along with his apprentice. "That'll be us someday Bearkit," she mewed softly.
"Sootkit, step forwards," Cliffstar said.
Sootkit stepped out of the crowd of cats, fluffing up her fur.
"Sootkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you have received your warrior name, you will be known as Sootpaw. Your mentor will be Solarsky. I hope Solarsky will pass down all he knows to you,"
"Solarsky, step forwards," Cliffstar mewed.
"Solarsky, you are ready to take on your second apprentice. You trained Littlerose well, and have shown yourself to be a great deputy as well as a honest warrior. You will be the mentor of Sootpaw, and I except you to pass on all you know to her."
"Deerpaw! Sootpaw!" ShadowClan howled, the new apprentices sitting proudly together at the base of the pine.
"Deerpaw! Sootpaw!" Willowkit howled along with Bearkit.
Cliffstar howled the apprentices names and then jumped down from the great pine. Signalling the end of the clan meeting.
