Blythe
“I think I'm pregnant”
We were in her dorm talking. Just randomly when she said that. I didn't know what to think at that point. You know that kinda thing just hits you and you don't know how to possibly react.
“Pregnant?” Are you sure? Was all I could say.
“Well. I dunno. My period is late and so..”
I nodded.“ We can't conclude just yet. We need to be sure” she played with her fingers as she nodded.
“You know, I and Jacob did discuss our future together.” she started
“Really? And what did you two discuss?”
“We did discuss getting a house together after my college graduation. You remember I took a gap year cos of mum's health”I just nodded. It broke my heart to see how much love she gave to that guy, and if she was truly pregnant...
“He's got a job now. She laughed. He didn't want to work in his dad's company. Insisted on getting a job on his own”
“Good” I say.
She rolls to her side and faces me.
“What if I'm truly pregnant B? What then?”
“If you are, we'd figure this out together. Him included”
“I know, but we haven't discussed kids yet or any of that stuff.”I tried so hard to be supportive to Gwen, to look on the bright side of Jacob but there was no bright side to him.
“Gwen!” I had to start somewhere.
“Yes”
“I know this is bad timing but couldn't you at least give that guy we met at the party a chance. He sounded sweet. At least we know he's decent”She gave me a hard look. She knew I was indirectly referring to Jacob.
“You know I only have that guy my number because he was persistent and because you encouraged me to.
I sighed.
“Like it or not. Jacob is my boyfriend”
I scoffed. “I'm not asking you to date the guy. It's just dinner”
“What would Jacob think about this?” she adds.
“Gwen. You're not listening to me. You expect a whole lot from Jacob. You don't need to say it, I know, but what if he doesn't think the way you do. I know him Gwen..“Shh...I told you he's changed. You keep holding on to the past. He's not like that anymore”
“All I'm saying is that you should give this guy a chance. Even if it's just once” I said. She looked at me as she bit her fingernails.
“Just one dinner” she says as I smile.
