June 24th 1991 - Tonks' Cottage

A young Adhara was trying to climb a tree- and failing spectacularly- while a boy around her age was sitting against it, a gameboy in his hand, playing tetris. "C'mon Addyyy! You're getting tree flakes all over me!" he cried. Adhara stopped what she was doing and shot him an incredulous look, "Tree flakes? What in Merlin's beard are tree flakes?" the Italian boy looked at her, a mischievous look in his eyes, "Well it's the stuff that falls from the tree, obviously, like the leaves and bark you're knocking all over me!" they locked eyes for a few moments and then their composure broke, joyful laughs echoing around them.

Adhara, still giggling, got down from where she was hanging from the tree and sat next to the boy. "Are you still playing that game?" scoffing, he turned off the gameboy and leaned back on the tree, "Not anymore! It's rigged- it's definitely rigged." This comment made Adhara laugh at him. After this they sat in a comfortable silence, lilac petals from the wisteria tree occasionally falling around them, leaning on each other for comfort, knowing this will be the last time they see the other before Hogwarts.

"Do you really have to move back to Italy?" he turned to gaze through her lashes and into the grey whirlpool behind them. "yeah," sighing dejectedly, "mother wants us to spend some time there so i could learn more about our family history. But don't worry Addy! We'll see each other in person again at Hogwarts, It's only a year away!"

She glanced at him and then abruptly sat up, startling the dark skinned boy and causing her blonde hair to hit her in the face. "We should make a pact! A pinkie promise!" she exclaimed with a wide smile decorating her face. Blinking slowly her companion stared at her "a ...what?". Sthe stood up, grabbed his arm and pulled him onto his feet to explain and execute the sacred pact, "its a kind of muggle promise, you do this," she stuck out her pinkie, and indicated he do the same, "and then you interlock them and make a promise, we should promise we'll see each other at hogwarts. The first saturday in the astronomy tower at...uhhhh...4pm! If we don't find each other before then, deal?" Grinning he interlocked their pinkies, "deal!"

With a shriek, she fell out of bed and heard hysterical laughter across the room "DORA!" This, naturally, spurred even more laughter from her bubblegum haired sister. Adhara sat up, hair soaked and sticking to her face like spiderwebs. "Doraaaa! Seriously!?" The commotion caused Ted to come in and see the disaster, and he was mad... well at least he tried to be. It didn't last very long before he started laughing too, barely able to get the words "Come on! Brea- breakfast is- is ready!"

The word breakfast was all it took for Adhara to realise what day it was. July 31st. Her birthday.

"I HAVE TO GET READY! OUT- EVERYONE OUT PLEASE," snorting, Ted grabbed Nymphadora and dragged her out while casting a spell to dry Addys hair and yelling to hurry because they were having Andy's birthday pancakes this morning.

She got up, brushed her hair, and ran to her dresser to get ready. She picked out a white t shirt with a baggy cream cardigan, some baggy jeans and her trainers, sprinted out of the room; halfway to the kitchen before realising she missed the bathroom door. "Teeth! right!" she yelled before running back to brush her teeth.

A few minutes and a fall down the stairs later she was sat at the table vibrating in her seat as they waited for Andy to reveal the pancakes. Her special birthday pancakes practically put on this planet by the gods themselves. It was safe to say these pancakes were what this Particular household looked forward to the most on their birthdays.

As she looked around she realised that her family had taken the time to put up a colour-changing banner with the words 'Happy Birthday!' In triangles along the wall, and she felt her face soften. She knew they weren't her birth family- it was clear just by looking at them- but they all loved each other as though they were and Adhara couldn't ask for anything more.

"My darling and excellently behaved family, are you ready for the pancakes?" Ted, Dora and Addy all gave her the most excited look with an impatient and ecstatic look in their eyes. It was safe to say she took one look before bursting out in laughter.

"C'mon love, please don't keep us in suspense," Ted whined, giving her the best puppy eyes he could master. "You look constipated." Came the deadpanned response from his daughter, and that it was all it took for everyone to start laughing and for the pancakes to be served as they joked throughout breakfast. Ted had given a very dramatic performance of being immensely offended and grasped at his heart, wallowing in pity and yelling about how hurt he was- before Andromeda have him a look that clearly said 'eat your food first, be dramatic after', as Dora and Andy were snickering next to each other about how infatuated Ted was with his wife.

Yeah, they may not be her birth family, but she loved them all the same and there was no doubt she'd do anything for them
