Palkia is far out shined by its rival, Dialga. However, it Does have a powerful sp attack stat, as well as great typing, so when used correctly, it can sweep teams.
Here are its good traits:1: its stats:
Palkias stats are less defensive then dialga, but it does have a decent 100 base speed. that's not enough to outspeed speedy pokemon like greninja or manectric, so most players patch up Palkias speed with a choice scarf. Its special attack stat is a powerful 150, which is more powerful then latios's and even higher then Mega Houndooms sp attack, so it's worth the hinderance choice scarf puts on it.
It's also rather tanky with its base 120 sp defense and base 100 defense stats.2: it's typing:
Water and dragon gives you only two weaknesses: dragon and fairy. This was especially nice back in the days of diamond and pearl thru black and white, when it's only weakness was dragon, whom it could rip apart with STAB spacial rend. Fairy now messes up Palkia a bit ( as it does a lot of things ) but it still poses a threat, as most priority moves cant knock it out before it sweeps.3: its moveset:
Palkia, like Dialga, learns a great variety of moves which makes it somewhat unpredictable. Its most powerful moves include the Wallbreaking Spacial Rend, which has a higher chance of getting a critical that might be just what you need to blow up a frustrating sp wall. Hydro pump is its other STAB move, dealing with those defensive rock and ground types that Spacial Rend might not be able to handle, although its a little inaccurate.
It also learns power gem, earth power, and Aura Sphere, giving it a broad range. The bad traits:
1: Palkia is not as well designed as its brother:
This is just my opinion, but dialga was better designed then palkia. Dialgas this awesome steel-temporal dinosaur/dragon thing. but what is palkia? I know it's supposed to look odd because it's from another dimension but.... Anyways. I think that palkia could have been better designed.
2: why is Palkia a water-dragon type?
If you can answer this, post your answer in comments. Palkia has nothing to do with water, am I right?!
Let's see...... Cosmic power is a psychic type move. Deoxys and claydol both have connections to space and are psychic types and learn the move cosmic power. Palkia is the epitome of space itself, so i believe it should be a psychic-dragon type and also learn cosmic power.
