Being a teacher to a bunch of Senior years students can be a real struggle. But Hana has managed it for the last two months and it seems students are quite happy with the way she teaches.
Yeah! She is sometimes reminded that going to Stanford law school and being at the top of her class seems worthless now as she wasn't interested to pursue a career in law at all.
Her goals are pretty different than others.
As the kids keep on making noise in the class Hana tries to zone out to calm her mind. It's been a hectic day for her. Who said becoming a Senior year teacher would be a less hectic job than an attorney?
Yeah... both are different but these kids are no less than the commotion in the court in front of the judge.
Their constant chattering and irrelevant questions can make a person's mind go numb.
But what can she do now after all it was her choice to become a teacher instead of an attorney disappointing her mom.
"I think you should think through it my love, becoming an attorney would bring you prestige, honor, fame, money--". Her mom had tried to present her with every positive aspect available of working as an Attorney.
"Enough Mila darling, don't try to pressure her. Until now we have always given her the freedom to take her own decision and she has proven herself capable enough of accepting both the bad and good results it has yielded. She is a smart girl." Theodore Shaw Hana's dad had tried to make his wife Mila understand and let their daughter have her way. He was the one who always understood her. Her dad was her best friend.
"How can you be so lenient about this decision of her life Theo? Yes, she has been very hardworking and has acted maturely in all her decisions but their consequences weren't going to affect her future but this will? She is our only child; shouldn't I be stressed being a mother." Her mother had tried her best to hinder her from her career choice, but the dad-daughter duo was able to get their way.
And now she thinks she might be a little too careless in this decision of hers.
Though the pay was good, her colleagues were also very friendly and the working environment was pretty refreshing it was just the kids who demanded the most of her energy.
She should have taken some time and then decided on her career options, this was the hastiest decision she has ever taken.
But what else could have she done when all her distant (in the true sense) family who gathered during the family dinners had tried to rub on her face how all of their kids were employed in high-paying jobs and had perfect partners which meant they were pretty much set for life whereas she even after graduating from a Prestigious Law school that too on top of her class wasn't able to find a suitable job (that's what the family rumor mill said).
The real reason was she has always dreamt of living a happier and stress-free life and during her time as a para-legal, she has had enough of the experience that how demanding a legal job can be.
As soon as school got over Hana rushed to her apartment, which she shared with her two best friends cum roommates.
It was a Friday night, after all, the designated night for self-pitying.
Hana changed into a loose faded white t-shirt which she had taken from her dad's wardrobe the year she joined law school and a pair of jean shorts. Tying her hair in a messy top bun she joined Miracle and Preslie on their living room couch. The house room looked as if it was destroyed by a tornado. It was a mess, with everything out of its original place and the floor littered with snack and chocolate bar wrappers.
The place looked as if it was infested and resided by pigs and rats.
But when Hanna looked closely at her two roomies and herself, the background perfectly suited their attire.
All of them looked like shitty messes.
After all, it was just the weekends when they were able to chill and relax in their "natural habitat". So why judge?
"You know my motion bout pronounce hash veen lompitly..."Preslie tried talking with her mouth full of snacks.
"Isn't it too soon for you to get over this delusion of love you have fostered for the last decade?" Hanna said rolling her eyes. The sarcasm dripping from her statement was evident.
"Don't say like that, at least it didn't last for seven years like her one-sided love for that Paxton." Miracle said coming to Preslie's rescue.
"..ahem..ahem..hmm.. but this time I'm perfectly confident that this chapter of Love is finally over from my life. Now I would rather spend my time on my career building." Preslie tried convincing her friends with seriousness in her voice.
Hanna and Miracle knew she was a hardworking girl who just wandered in the wrong path.
Having read too many romance novels, watched romantic movies, and witnessed her parents' love story, Preslie has always dreamt of a sensational love story of her own.
But the poor girl has never been able to attract the right kind of men toward her.
Feeling bad for her Hanna said" Don't be a pessimistic ass, why don't you try your luck on these dating apps. Though I wouldn't be the right person to suggest this to you as I have tried it once but backed out when I received some response." trying to cheer her.
"This is hypocrisy, Hanna. I know you haven't been able to move on from that ex of yours and you didn't back out because you were scared but you had this hope that one day you will get back with that ass of an ex of yours." Miracle said pointedly.
"Yes, she is right Hansy, I was with you through your whole relationship and when you broke up with the asshole. But for the last six years, you have only rejected guys that showed even a little bit of interest in you." Preslie reminded.
Hanna was suddenly pulled into the painful memories of her past with Sage Radford whom she once considered her Mr. Right. Tears started pooling in her eyes.
"My Love, Miracle didn't mean to hurt you, she means good for you. To move on and to find someone deserving of you." Preslie tried easing a distressed Hanna.
"You never let anyone out of the friend zone. During Law School when everyone thought you and Charlie had something going on due to your bonding and "crackling chemistry" you stopped the gossip right then and there by announcing your fake relationship with an imaginary guy. Those close to you knew that nothing about this rumor was true. I know your experience with Reina and Sage was a nightmare but sweetheart that can't be the end of it. You have a life ahead of you.
"My case is different from yours as no one wants to be with me even when I try romantically approaching them. It might sound weird but I'm 23 and have never had a boyfriend all my life. But you are different you are a people magnet. People find you funny, attractive, and charming, it's just you are the one who never wants to move ahead." Preslie tried convincing Hanna.
It wasn't that Hanna didn't want to move on or anything but what she had with Sage was something out of a dream. Though their time together was less the memories they had created were precious to her.
He made her feel like she was the only one that existed in the world.
And he tried moving on just the guys that approached her weren't suitable,
Charlie Addams was different, he and Hanna bonded quickly when they met in the first year of college. But she knew that he considered her only as a friend as it was evident in the way he looked at Miracle that he had feelings for her. So did she.
She could see her stiffening when Preslie mentioned him.
One thing Hanna considered holy was maintaining the bro code. Dating your best friend's ex, crush, sibling, or anyone from her family was out of limits. It was an unsaid rule she followed religiously.
After all, she wasn't like her ex-bitch of a best friend.
But her friends were true.
How long does she have to wait and for whom?
She loved him, she was sure of it, but did he love her?
