Hi, I'm Y/N Banner! For those of you who don't know me, I'm a nerd. The biggest nerd in all of the 8th grade! Or— well— I used to be. . . That is until IAPS (Issues and Physical Science) came along. 87.77 is my current grade.... We have no other assignments, no extra credit, my teacher has fully updated his grade book. There is nothing I can do. And it is KILLING ME!!! I've had a streak for years, purely of A's. Principal's honor roll year after year. Then, here comes 8th grade barreling through me like a bus, on a semi, on a bullet train. "I'm actually going to jump off a building." I told my friend Zaina, "NO YOU ARE NOT!!!" "I SECOND THAT STATEMENT!" Lilly added, "Why not?? There's no point. My streak has been ruined." "You can restart" "But it won't be the same!!!" I said dramatically, "What would your dad say?" Zaida asked, "He'd say 'as long as you tried your best' but my best isn't good enough."
*Banner's P.O.V*
As I watched Y/N walk toward my car from dismissal, I noticed a distraught look on her face. "What's wrong sweetheart?" "Science, that's what's wrong." She informed me, "But that's your best subject.." "Not anymore. I got a B." "You say that like it's the end of the world" I responded, "But it is! Colleges don't want A/B students, they want all A's." "Y/N, you're in AVID, you know better than any other 8th grader that colleges don't just care about grades." "I know... but what if I wanted to go to an Ivy League?? Harvard, and Yale, and Princeton wouldn't accept a failure.!" Those words broke my heart. "Honey, you are not a failure. I got my fair share of B's in school... heck, I got C's too. And look at me know, I have a fantastic job and an even more fabulous daughter!! I'm proud of you sweetie. You can do better next quarter. And even if you don't, it won't matter, all I care for is that you're happy, healthy, and trying."
