AUTHOR'S NOTE: The art above belongs to me. I marathoned this just to republish this chapter--or maybe not, I don't even know. The Duel Disk, Duel Runner and helmet, and character design belong to me, too. Just like before, this fic is entirely inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships 2009-2011, which have story modes in which a new character is introduced to the main anime plotline: you, the protagonist. I've taken this and run with it. I will also take some characters that are unique to the games and bring more attention to them, fleshing them out. While they technically are not my characters, they are so insignificant in the games they may as well be, because I want to give them bigger roles and I think they're cool.

Since I'm mish-mashing three plotlines into a single character (as well as attempting to follow the anime as accurately as possible, mostly sticking to the Japanese plot but using English names and small additional details like Yusei's fear of bugs and Jack's accent), my character may come off a bit... Mary Sue-ish? Maybe not even at first, idfk, but I'm trying to make her work as a human character as much as possible despite that. If it's still cringe despite my greatest efforts, well, I tried, and I'm still attached to this story. But there's a reason this is on Wattpad, not Archive of our Own.

=============

Of course it had to be raining, Rally groaned, pulling his beanie further over his head. Why couldn't it have just stayed a clear day?

The sun was shining earlier that morning. It was why Rally was out here instead of down in the base, helping Yusei with his Duel Runner. However, dark clouds began to gather around midday, and by sunset, it began to rain. The sun set too quickly, though, and Rally found himself soaked through his rags halfway across the slums. He was almost there now, but he would certainly have caught a cold or flu being outside in the rain so long.

Yusei was going to kill him if he got sick. After all, here in the Satellite, common cold and flu medicine was a treasure almost as rare as cards, or Duel Disks or Duel Runners. Sure, there was Martha, but she was out on the outskirts of the city, where buildings blended with the forest. It was way too far.

It should only take him a minute or two now. He was just nearly there!

Something caught Rally's eye and his footsteps slowed. Light. Not just any light, either; a bright light, like the kind used in a vehicle. If he listened closely, he could also hear the muted sounds of a Duel Runner idly running, too. And it certainly wasn't Yusei's Runner. It sounded completely different. That meant only one thing...

Sector Security.

But... here? He hasn't heard of any sort of trouble happening around here lately. What would Sector Security want here? Was there some sort of stakeout? It didn't sound like the Runner was moving, and it didn't look like the light was approaching at all.

He wondered if he'd have to wait long for them to leave, if he should just mind his own business and try to run past the light without looking suspicious, or if something was going on and he should go the long way around. While he pondered that, the Duel Runner's engine suddenly slowed to a stop.

"Duel mode disengaging. Opponent has left the Duel," he heard a CPU voice say. Then, all of a sudden, white smoke billowed out from where the light had come from, as though the Duel Runner had just lost the Duel. He supposed that leaving the Duel meant essentially forfeiting the match, but here in the rain, all the white smoke did was reveal the owner's position behind the alley.

Is it not Sector Security? Rally thought, bewildered. It sounds like someone just lost a duel--maybe TO Security... but if that's the case, then where's the opponent?

"Fuel low. Fuel low. Deactivating..."

The white smoke slowed to a halt and the engine of the Duel Runner powered down, but the headlight stayed on. Cursing his curiosity, Rally decided to risk taking a peek around the corner.
