Karli's POV:
The whole time that Jax and Brantley had been having their talk, I had been keeping a watchful eye on them, making sur that things didn't get ugly. My brother was equal parts level-headed and mean when he wanted to be and it all depended on how the person he was having the chat with took him on how things ended. When no punches were thrown, I took that as a good sign.
Seeing my brother walking back towards the shop, I walked out of the office, meeting him halfway across the lot. He pulled me into his arms in a big hug, tucking my head under his chin. "He seems like a good man Kar. Been though some shit just like we all have. If you want to try and make something out of whatever yall have going on, I'm fine with that. Just don't rush things and end up with your heart broke." Said Jax, before pulling back and placing a kiss on my forehead. "You're one of the few good things I have in my life and I want you to be happy. If you being happy involves him, I say got for it."
"Okay, who are you and what did you do with my brother." I said, unable to keep the smile off my face.
"Oh, he's still here darlin. Just trying to let you live a life that you want."
"Tara crawled your ass again about my dating life didn't she?" I smirked.
"She thinks she crawled my ass." He smiled as he rolled his eyes.
"Pretend all you want, big brudder, but you and I both know that little brunette that you're married to would kick your ass back in line if you overstepped." I said.
"You're right." Whispered Jax, adding a wink. "Now go get your man before I change my mind."
Acting before Jac could change his mind, I took off at a run towards Brantley, a huge smile on my face. When I reached him, I leapt into his arms, wrapping mine around his neck and slammed my mouth down over his. When I finally came you for air, I looked down into Brantley's green eyes as I said "so where do we go from here?"
"Only god knows that darlin." he said, his deep southern accent sending a shiver down my spine. "But as long as I get to see that smile on your face, as long as I get to hear that laugh of yours, we will figure the rest of it out."
"Ohhh, good answer." I whispered against his lips.
Jax's POV:
"Seems you're getting soft in your old age, Jackie Boy." Said Chibs as he walked into the office where I had been watching Brantley and Karli out on the lot covertly. "Hasn't been too long ago you would have been ready to shoot him for even thinking about touching Lil' Bit."
"Not gonna lie, part of me wants to go out there and tear them apart but I know that its time I let her find some happiness. And if that happiness gets her the fuck out of Charming and way from all tis shit, so be it." I said.
"Think there's something brewing?" asked Chibs.
"These home invasions aren't sitting right with me. They don't feel random. Maybe its just me overanalyzing the situation, but they feel targeted to me. And I don't mean the homes being targeted. I'm talking about us being targeted. I mean look at the houses they've hit so far. Every single person had some sort of a connection to the club. And between you and me, I think that Clay has something to do with it. He gave up the seat at the head of the table way to easily."
"Didn't have any other choice." Said Chibs.
"There were ways around it and you know it." I said, giving Chibs a look. "Clay has never been a stranger to working things in his favor. Look at the last 20 years with this club. Everything he had done hasn't been for the betterment of it. It was for his betterment. My gut tells me that him stepping aside isn't any different."
"Ok so, what do we do know?" asked Chibs. "Where do you think they will strike next?"
"If this is Clay, he's not going to be bold enough to go after any members. But our families on the other hand are fair game. He's always played dirty and he knows damn well that if my family was threatened, I'd do whatever I had to do to protect them, even if it meant giving up the club." I said, "Because of that, I want a patch with my sister, Tara, and the boys at all times. Tara knows my suspicion so she shouldn't fight you on this. But Karli doesn't. You know how she is and I don't want her to put herself in a dangerous situation because she's trying to fix something that she had no business messing with to begin with."
"Cant imagine where she gets that from." Said Chibs with a smirk.
"Yeah, our mother." I rolled my eyes.
"Ha! If that's what you want to be keep believe Jackie Boy, you keep right on." Chibs laughed. "You and Lil' Bit are two peas in a damn pod, mirror images of each other in every way. Both suborn as shite."
"Which is where that guy out there comes into play." I said. "He's my sisters ticket out of this town. And once she's out of here and safe, then I can get my wife and kids out of her. They deserve more than what Charming has to offer and even though it means leaving the club behind, its what's best for my family."
"Still think you can walk away from it all?" said Chibs.
"When walking away means that my sister is safe and my wife and kids are safe, there's no thinking to it; just what has to be done." I said.
"And your mom?" asked Chibs.
"She's busy doing whatever she wants to do to care about what's going on. Don't see her trying to stop me considering that the last I heard she was couch surfing and shooting heroin in her arm." I said, anger and hurt mixing just like it always did when I talked about my mom. "Besides, I'm a grown ass fucking man with a wife and kids. If I want to do something, I don't have to have her blessing and I damn sure don't have to hear her bitching because she didn't get her a way."
***Note***
I know this chapter is super short and mostly filler, but it was needed to get to the next point. I hope y'all still like it though :)
