The roads were covered with snow and Vonetta doesn't know how to drive in these conditions. Like myself and probably many of you she has a fear of driving behind logging trucks. When she finds herself behind one, she hurries past the truck and then slows down too much for that driver's liking. That driver then impatiently attempts to pass her car on the left. As the truck was halfway pass Vonetta's car, it ran into some slush on the left of the truck, causing it to lose traction. Over correcting the slide, the driver of the logging truck began to drift into the right lane. Having a vehicle in front, behind, and alongside of her, Vonetta had nowhere to escape to.
The trailer of the truck impaled Vonetta's Toyota Camry and pulled it into the vehicle in front of her. Once the driver of the truck regained traction, he slowed down. But it was already too late, as Vonetta and the car in front of her were forced into the ditch. Both cars left the highway and entered the embankment and crashed into the trees alongside the highway.
The right front and rear passenger side of Vonetta's car took almost all of the damage. Mercedes was pinned in the vehicle, but Ayanna was unfortunately thrown from the rear seat into the wood line. Mercedes and Ayanna were both listed in critical condition after they were evacuated from the scene. Vonetta's major injuries were a broken finger on her right hand, whiplash, cuts from the glass, and abrasions and bruises from the seat belt. Even though she wasn't at fault for the accident, Vonetta felt guilty driving the vehicle in those road conditions.
