Jennie shook her foot nervously under the table while people danced and milled around the tent. The band played pop hits and were generally a success, but she had a hard time letting loose. She knew what was yet to come and was anxious to get it over with. The results of the vote would be announced, surely it would be a spectacle, and then she could get out of here. She knew the whole ordeal was one big charade meant to garner ratings and sell magazines, but if there was even the slightest chance it would save the treehouse, it was worth it.

Finally the band quieted and Mino took the stage again.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to announce the winner of the online poll!"

A few people cheered, but Jennie heard a few groans as well. They were as sick of this as she was.

"Voting closed one hour ago and now we know who the public has sided with. Team Soojoo, or Team Jennie!"

The fans off to the side roared and booed, supporting and hating their first choice and their enemy respectively.

"Kim Soojoo and Jennie Kim, can I get you on the stage please?"

Jennie shot a terrified look at Joy who was smiling and clapping giddily. Her biggest fan. Exhaling slowly, she got to her feet, adjusted the pink waves of fabric at her waist. and headed for the stage. Across the tent, Soojoo was also rising, giving a delicate, queenly wave to the crowd who watched her through furrowed brows.

The two women ascended the stairs at opposite ends of the stage and headed towards Mino in the center. It was an image straight out of a tense boxing match, and Jennie hoped he wouldn't announce her weight. She could feel Soojoo's eyes burning into her, but she kept her gaze low, and reserved her eye contact for Mino, and Joy out in the crowd who was giving her a thumbs up.

"This is it folks," said Mino as he gestured first to Soojoo on one side, then Jennie on the other. "The polls have been open for a week and everyone has been casting their votes. Who did you decide should get to keep the treehouse?"

He leaned forward and put his hand up to his mouth as if he was spilling some secret and added, "Although I think we all know this is about much more than that!"

Jennie wanted to crawl out of her own skin. She had hated the idea to publicize this debacle as soon as it had left her mouth last week, but she had been forced to think on her toes and it broke her heart to think of Jisoo's hard work crashing to the ground under a bulldozer because of this wretched woman. But a week without so much as a peep from Jisoo made her question her own efforts, although she decided to see it through to the end.

Soojoo stood tall in her gown with an impressive posture, paparazzi perfect in its elegance with a dash of nonchalance. Jennie stood, shifting her weight from side to side, with her hands behind her back, clammy and wringing themselves white. She wondered how Soojoo could be so calm and composed given the huge lead Jennie had in the poll all along. Perhaps Soojoo had just suffered so much embarrassment that day that her only option was to bluff confidence. Not to mention her TV show crew were crouched at the side of the stage capturing every moment.

A drumroll began to sound and Jennie feared she might vomit.

Here we go.

The screen lit up behind her with Team Marie and Team Angela in huge letters. Digits underneath each name were randomizing, up and down, for dramatic effect.

Let's just fucking end this, please!

The crowd was silent as the grave as the percentages scrolled across the screen like some tacky slot machine. Jennie shut her eyes so tight she feared they might bleed. Even through her closed lids she could see the multitude of camera flashes.
