Wednesday tucked the covers under the mattress, smoothing them out perfectly. The sound of Enid's growl snoring filled the room, the moonlight shining through the window and reflecting on her face. It was the full moon, but Enid had a talent for controlling when she wolfed out.
Wednesday pulled on some black leather boots, completing her outfit. Thing scurried across the floor over to her, clearly mad with her decisions, as he lipped her off about somthing along the lines of how this was stupid.
"I know, but I need to start now or it won't be ready when she wakes up!" Wednesday whispered back to Thing, stuffing a flashlight into her bag. "Yes it was a bit weird that I slept almost all day and until and hour ago, but I won't be tired so it will be fine!"
Thing shrugged, raising his pinky and thumb.
Throwing her bag over her shoulder, Wednesday opend the door quietly and walked out. The halls were cold and empty at night, perfect, like a large coffin. A spider ran in front of her, another following close behind.
Wednesday's footsteps echoed as she sped up, rushing down the stairs, and finally out the entrance doors. Normally she could just use the window, but Enid had been too close.
It was pouring rain, the whole courtyard was drenched and almost a river was flowing from one side to the other. Too late, Wednesday realised she had forgotten an umbrella. Soon enough she was soaked to the bone, her braids dripping like faucets.
She ran into the forest, her boot falling into a deep puddle that filled it with water.
After about four hours of walking through pouring rain, and a light break thirty minutes in at the coffee shop that had been empty, she arrived at the nearest big city. The only thing open at six am was a few shops, restaurants and the dollar store. Wednesday ran into it, desperately trying to get out of the rain. The girl at the till's eyes went wide as she walked in, and she pirked up, putting down her coffee.
Wednesday rushed over to the umbrella section and grabbed a black one, not really caring about the pink dots on it. She went to the clothes aisle and took one of the cheap shirts from the shelf, it had the words sweety pie sprawled over it, but she threw it over her shoulder along with a pair of pants that were probably a size too big, and bright blue. Grabbing a raincoat and new socks she walked to the crafted isle.
Wednesday shuffled through the isle until she found a bunch of fairy lights, grabbing ten boxes of them. As much as she hated to admit, Tyler's 'date' he had set up, before trying to kill her, had been romantic, though she wasn't planning on doing this in a crypt, or planning on playing a musical. This was a Christmas party...mixed with birthday, not a date. Though it was just her and Enid there would be no cheesy stuff...except for a holmark. Wednesday didn't know what those were, but they looked horrible...and exactly Enid's style.
Wednesday bundled the lights and walked into the snack aisle. She let Thing pick the sweets, coming out with some mints, a bunch of rainbow strips that looked sugary, some chocolate Santa Claus figures, chocolate figures they could paint, whatever TimTams were, hot cocoa mix, bags and bags of popcorn and enough pudding to feed a small country...okay only a few packs.
Wednesday sighed and grabbed some plain chips off the shelf as they walked by them. Thing had jumped down and was now leading her to the craft isle, dogging the view of the very confused looking cashier who probably would much rather be asleep.
Thing grabbed a few colouring books and threw them at Wednesday before choosing a bunch of scented pens and markers.
Finally done, Thing hopped back into her bag and she walked to the till. The woman gave her a weird look as she scanned each item before finally finishing.
