THE BAYOU ISN'T KIND TO STRANGERS﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎﹏︎
"OW! WOULD YOU please stop?" (F/N) tried to politely ask her young nephew to stop poking her with the small board game figurine shaped like a teardrop, but all she was met with was a pout and dramatic groan. And another poke of course.
"I don't wanna play this game," Zachery complained, throwing down the little plastic figurines used in the game and standing up. He took no more than five steps from the table, the under-watered grass of his mother's lawn crunching beneath his feet as he crossed his arms disapprovingly.
"Okay... Um, I think we have uno," (F/N) winced, the last time they played uno, the boy had thrown a tantrum because he had to add four cards to his deck. And by the bored expression on his face, he evidently didn't want to play that. She tried to offer another game, "or...Monopoly—?"
Zachery suddenly perked up, "I got it!" An excited expression grew upon his face as he looked into the distance for a fleeting second, then back to his aunt. He only waited for a few blinks before he broke into a sprint, running away from both the house and the woman.
"Hey! Where are you going?" (F/N) called after him. She quickly realized that he was running into the thick woods, and in Louisiana, that was not a good place for anyone to be. But especially not young children. Worriedly she ordered, "Zachery, come back!" She stood, a glare on her face.
"Hide and seek!" Her nephew shouted. Boy did he sound excited now, "Come catch me!" The young boy didn't look back, instead darting as quickly as his new sneakers would bring him.
"Zach!" She called out. He ignored her and had already reached the tree line. She cried out, "The woods are dangerous! You shouldn't play in them!"
He ran past the trees, his figure slowly disappearing from her view, "C'mon on (F/N)!"
(F/N) grumbled a few curses before quickly rushing after the little boy. If she didn't catch him and he got lost, lord knows her sister would have her head. So, she sprinted after him as fast as she could.
But the little boy was sneaky, hiding and then sneaking past her to call out and distract her. Eventually, (F/N) got too far into the woods that she couldn't even tell where she was, she was just calling out Zachery's name and hoping for the best scenario. However, she spotted a large house with faded white paint. The girl figured she could ask someone living there for help.
(F/N) saw a gate that had a sign on it, one that read 'ACCEPT HER GIFT' in all caps. As approached it she noticed that a piece of fabric from a shirt was torn off on the metal. But it looked like the one Zachery had been wearing, so she sighed and ducked underneath the gate, figuring the boy had unknowingly made his way onto the property.
"Zachery?" She called out hopefully, only to be met with an uncomfortable silence that sent fear straight to her heart. A murder cawed and flew away but nothing else out of the normal occurred, the sound fading to the normal sound of the bayou.
(F/N) continued through a decrepit path with tall plants and the occasional fly, which she swatted away. She was used to the rapid swarm of flies, she visited her sister enough to know that there was a lot in Louisiana, but there was more than usual at this place.
