4 MONTHS LATER

I stood in my kitchen after a day filled with boring meeting. My water was about to start boiling, when I heard my door bell ring. I sighed and walked up to it.

As I opened the door, I was met with crying Finn.

˝Finn, what's wrong? Why are you here all alone?˝ I asked, trying to pull him inside, he shook his head.

˝It... It's Arthur...˝ I no longer heard a thing he said. I walked to my kitchen, turned off the stove and took my jacket. Walking out the door, pulling Finn along.

I shoved him into the car and turned it on, speeding towards Garrison lane.

˝Where is he, Finn?˝ I asked looking at the road.

˝The fighting ring.˝ He said and I nodded.

I pulled into the empty space behind the building which held the fighting ring. I stalked towards the large doors, Finn trailing close behind me.

I pushed them open and barged in, expecting to see a bloodied Arthur sitting on a tiny chair.

What I saw instead was a circle of roses where the ring used to be. The room was lit up by candles and Arthur stood in the middle. The family was stood on either side of the room, looking at me. I slowly walked towards the middle. Towards Arthur.

He stretched his arm out for me to take. And I did.

˝Arthur... What... Is this?˝ I said, looking up at him.

˝I think you know pretty well, love...˝ He said looking at me with a soft expression on his face. I stared up at him, my eyes beginning to water.

˝Arthur...˝ I started.

He got down on his knee and looked up to me. With my hands in his, he started.

˝Monica... My Major, my commander... My love... I've loved you since the day you came to the trenches. The day I had boarded that train back to Birmingham, my heart was left on the platform with you, along with my dog tags. For a good while, all I could think about was you. And then when I saw you in Garrison that night, I thought I was high out of my mind. But the night of the fight you knocked some sense into me. Literally. Ever since then, I've felt alive. So alive that it feels like dreaming most of the time. But to sum it up, I love you. I love you with all my being and I don't think I'll ever stop. With that, I want to ask an important question.

                                                                  WILL YOU MARRY ME?˝

He said, looking up at me, his pupils blown wide. My eyes filled with tears and I was left speechless.

His face soon turned to worry at my lack of words.

˝My love?˝ He said, but was cut off by my arms around his neck.

˝Oh, Arthur! Yes... Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!˝ I screamed into his ear and he laughed loudly. We hugged while the others joined us in the circle.

˝Oh, let the man put the ring on her finger.˝ Polly's voice called out from somewhere within the crowd. Everybody dispersed and Arthur looked at me. I looked up at him and offered him my hand.

He placed the ring on my finger delicately and smiled. I looked at the ring, a simple silver band adorned by, what looked like, peridot and jade.

˝You like it?˝He whispered into my ear and I smiled.

˝I love it.˝ I whispered back to him. He leaned in and kissed me softly. I hummed and smiled into the kiss.

˝How 'bout we go drinking now, eh? It's time to- Ouch!˝ John yelled, but was cut off by a smack from Esme.

˝Let them have their moment, you oaf!˝ She yelled at him. Arthur and I laughed and followed the group towards the Garrison.
