We walked for days. Talking about life and our future plans. A few nights, we had no place to sleep, so we slept in the rain. Those nights, I couldn't feel my fingers or toes. Nathan snuggled up against my chest, and I wrapped my arms around him. He was warm the whole time, of course, while I froze to death. A few times he offered to warm me up, but sleeping with him next to me was worth it. Watching his chest rise every time he inhaled, or running my fingers through his hair while he was fast asleep.
A few times I was almost hit by a car, which wasn't pretty. We were walking in the middle of the road, and I couldn't hear the car because of the rain. Thank God Nathan looked back right before. I felt so drowsy, and I made him carry me for a while. I was for sure I couldn't make it any farther, with blood staining my clothes, mud caked in my hair, clothes ripped and torn, until I saw it. Welcome to Huntley, IL! I thought I was gonna cry. I can't believe it. I actually made it back home.
"Oh my God.." I breathed, smiling. I hugged Nathan so tightly, I'm pretty sure I would've choked him if I held on any longer. Sighing in relief, I started walking. Anywhere. I was finally home, and I could go anywhere. Stores, banks, the neighbors, home... Anywhere... "Oh my God.." I thought again. "I know, it's great right?" He laughed. "No.. My mum is gonna kill me!" I yelled, bolting towards the familiar house I called home. She was probably worried sick. I have been gone for at least a week. I rarely ever left the house for a few days.
"Mum!" I began screaming. I was so excited. I barely made it to the door before I became out of breath. "Woah!! Hold up!"Nathan called behind me. I didn't listen to him. I practically ripped the door off trying to get in. "Mum!" I yelled again. "Hello? Is someone ther-"She stopped dead when she saw me. "Violet?" She whispered. I nodded viciously, "Yeah! It's me, mum!" I said. It took her several moments to actually process it. "Violet?" She asked again in disbelief. I, again, responded with a nod. With that, she immediately ran up and squeezed me as tight as possible.
"M-mom..You're... Crushing me.." I rasped out. "I don't care.." She cried into my shoulder. After what seemed like an eternity of hugging and crying, she finally let go. Then she slapped me. "OW!!" I yelled, moving me hands to my throbbing cheeks. "VIOLET MARIE!! I OUGHT TO KILL YOU, YOUNG LADY! HOW DARE YOU RUN AWAY LIKE THAT?! IF IT WASN'T ILLEGAL, I WOULD MURDER YOU RIGHT NOW!!" She yelled at me. I felt myself began to laugh, but I managed to restrain it by biting my lip. "Missy, you can't begin to imagine the trouble you're in.."
