15. Saying goodbye to the light

"So, cousin what obsession do you have with me?"

"Excuse me?"

"Hey, that your Heartless was going around teasing me a lot about wanting me with him, then you kissed yourself looking like me What was that all about?" asks Mirabel lying on Camilo's bed. He breaks into a cold sweat. He didn't think this question would ever come and now that he has it, he wishes it hadn't happened to begin with.

"Well, that I love you very much, cousin. That's no secret." replies Camilo eloquently and with a shrug. Mirabel squints, rolls over in bed and points a finger at him.

"Not to the point of almost killing the whole family. That's strange Camilo, so tell me what's going on with you, why so much insistence? I also remember you said you were jealous of Sora. You know, quike he was my best friend now and I replaced you. Even got jealous because of what I said thinking you was Dolores," Mirabel points out and Camilo scratches his neck with his right hand.

He doesn't know whether to tell her. Not now that everything is so quiet and they want to pretend it doesn't make them sad that Sora and Riku are leaving tomorrow. Camilo bites his lips and maintains an uncomfortable, almost painful smile. Mirabel tilts her head and stands up, tapping her cheek with her finger.

"Tell me. Tell meeee. That there's no more desire to kill everyone at least and it's time to be honest with each other-"

Mirabel leans back slightly, with Camilo squeezing his eyes shut and pressing his lips against Mirabel's. The girl blinks a couple of times and the shock is plastered on her face even as Camilo pulls away from her and seems to be slowly shrinking in size, embarrassed, scared, it's not quite clear. The only thing that is is that while Mirabel was expecting a direct response, she wasn't expecting it physically, much less that it would be that one.

"Camilo-"

"D-don't bother me. Just come on in, okay?"

Mirabel kneels down in front of him who looks the same as when they both turned five.

"I can't take you seriously looking like that. I'm sorry." she comments uncomfortably. Camilo returns to his original form. Remaining seated on the floor. He scratches his head and still doesn't face her. "Camilo Are you serious about that?"

"Yes. I mean... we have each other, we've always been together, played together, against the whole world and well, I love you and.... that."

"I'm your cousin."

"So what about that?" Camilo replies instantly, clearly obfuscated and annoyed that that answer was obviously coming. "If I understood anything from all this we went through, it's that if my heart tells me one thing where there's no harm and I'm not doing anything wrong, I listen to it and follow it, instead of ignoring it," Camilo says with total conviction about it. "Sora and Riku are both men and they love each other why shouldn't I love you? We are cousins, not siblings, not father and daughter or mother and son. What I feel is not wrong." she excuses quickly.

Mirabel exhales shaking her head and pushes some of her hair out of her face so Camilo can look at her. Mirabel pats his cheek a couple of times.

"What if I'm not the same as you?"

"T-then just tell me straight and I don't know, I guess there will be someone else in my life? I just know I want you to be happy and seeing you being happy is one of the things I've loved most about this week." Mirabel smiles weakly. It's funny that she hadn't realized that many times, the one who pushed her to go out on a limb, but have fun, was Camilo.

He didn't think about helping her, informing her of what was going on and above all, even if she didn't realize it, he was the one who was watching her. Camilo wanted to be present in every moment that Mirabel enjoyed because he had never seen her so happy. He had never seen her so radiant and with such a beautiful smile.
