I grieve for the families in pain for the tragedies of loved ones lost and pray for your strength and courage to hold on, to the end.
Justice will be served and no one can hide behind what's worn on their skin, because its not the clothes that did it, it's the heart and souls of who they are as men.
For I have watched, married, loved and prayed for a Black Man that has endured in a uniform, standing for hours locked behind closed steel doors.
Risking his life in the military wars and being forced to dismiss his service, because of the decisions of others and more, made to start this course based on skin and feeling powerful in the clothing they wore.
I stayed awake nights many years ago, 32 to be exact, while walking the floor with our 3 young children who slept and continued pacing the floor, raising the kids just to see how strong their daddy has to be, called in the middle of the night into the Streetz working while the kids would weep, me pretending it didn't worry me, all while we prayed Now I lay me down to sleep and their daddy was swept into the midnight for hours days and weeks, missing many many Bday parties, and wedding anniversaries.
Sleepless nights praying that he will make it home to his family, because he is targeted not for the man he is but for his skin, for the uniform he wears, the burden he bears and his bread winning career, but no one sees or understands who or what he has to deal with in those streetz and behind the walls built of concrete for men that look like him and maintain peace.
Not realizing that the men in blue are husbands, sons, and daddies too, saving lives tarnished by actions of other men, leaving next of kins, protecting prison cells for decisions that others got them in, but it doesn't ease the fear our family has deep within, for these men that risks their lives are grouped together yet again, not for bravery, commitment and the time spent, but for the terrible actions of other men.
