JOHN MCHALE. Smoke came through the entrance, it was at night but there was enough gunfire being lit that light would be flashing upon our eyes every second with the sound of bullets breaking glasses and pieces of pillars falling apart, the tables around would shake with the impact of sound, the roses on top of it would fall on our feet and the vases would roll down and crash just enough to blend with the bullets. As what could be seen Marta's men, held their guns tight as they shot towards the outside, one of them screamed for the people to go out through the back, and once the man shouted, most people followed his demands and immediately got shot at by some random bullet, and those who somehow survived were lucky enough to open the door and leave.
I looked over to the top of the room and saw Mike hiding behind a table that thankfully could take maybe three or four bullets since the back of it was metal. Marta opened her door and was immediately met with a bullet in her chest that made her fall down the stairs like a domino on the edge of a table, Jennifer kept screaming at everything that was happening around, she held her hands up in her ears trying to muffle the sound but nothing helped to hide the vibrance of terror that we all could hear. Yujun, out of everyone that seemed to be panicking, had his face blank the entire time, but his eyes, that were visible from my table, was the door to his soul, and I could tell his soul was shattering like the glasses in the bar. He was afraid, but not for himself, but for the one he was staring attentively at the other side of the room, Mike.
Even though Marta's men seemed to be dealing with their stuff and almost winning whatever fight we got ourselves in the middle of, I was also worried for the well being of everyone, and I tried to hide my hero persona from myself, I tried telling myself that being brave does not mean putting yourself in front of a bullet, but being smart enough to know each of your moves, but once a bullet scattered a piece of the table I was hiding under, I took the chance to go all over to where Jennifer was.
"Jennifer!" I screamed her name as I hugged her fearing a bullet could've gotten to me.
"Jo-John we-oh my god we gotta leave now!" She tried her best to complete her sentences as the sound of gunfire was too loud to hear her own voice.
"We will!" I kept hugging her, trying to calm her down "But-listen, we need to go over to Yujun!"
She held her head up again and looked at me with her eyes of terror again, this time she was scared of what I had just said.
"Are you-you fucking insane?" She screamed her lungs out.
I looked over and saw Yujun trying something with his table.
"Hey!" I got his attention from afar, "Stay there! We're coming!"
"John we can't do this we can't!" Jennifer cried in my arms.
Marta's man kept screaming orders and demanding everyone to leave even though there weren't that many people alive anymore.
"No! Listen to me! Look at me!" I kept shaking her in the hopes of her getting into her senses "We have to go to Yujun! Otherwise we die-right here on this floor!"
Jennifer was in a difficult place, we all were, but something I've learned from shows about murder and war is that a button or a switch stays in your mind, and once something like the situation we were in happened, we could switch off that part of our brain and just do what we had to do in order to survive, and that's what I did, and I hoped the others would do the same. I held Jennifer as tight as I could with my hands, I nodded, giving her a sign that I was about to take her and run towards Yujun. We ran as fast as we could, we dodged the sounds of bullets in the hopes of not getting hit by them, we swiftly fell on the floor once we were very close to Yujun, he took Jennifer's hand and pulled her to the corner of the room in which he believed she would be safe. Once he got to hold my hands, he pulled me up closer to him.
