Tears dripped silently down my face when I prepared for my first reaping. It's been roughly a year since my brother died and my mother has been in shock, my father working night and day to support my family and me? Well I'm trying to hold on to reality. It's just so goddamn hard.

I brush out my dark brown hair and look at myself in the mirror. I'm wearing a nice green dress with a gold pin of a Mockingjay on it. I have two sisters. One died before I was born, and left me this pin. The other is very much alive, and trying to keep myself and the family safe. I hold back more tears when my sister comes to collect me and take me to the reaping. My family would watch the recaps later. They aren't in the right state of mind to go. My sister is over eighteen, so if the unthinkable happens, she can't volunteer for my place.

We walk out our door, and start on our way to the square. We are merchants children and have always had enough to eat. But still I can't help feeling like my hip bones still stick out further than they should in this dress. I stare down, trying to clear last years games from my mind. Tristen is GONE. I look up, and my sister gives me a reassuring smile. My names in there once. Just once. Tristen's was in six. Maysilee, I don't know. We reach the check in and my sister has to let me go.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine. Your names only in once. Remember that. I love you."
"I love you too." My voice barely comes out as a whisper. I prick my finger and wait in the 12 year old girl section patiently. Soon it starts. The anthem plays and we all stand vigil. Our weird Capitol person yaps away and then he says "Ladies first." My heart stops, blood is pounding in my ears and he calls out the name.

"Huntress Donner."
