Kyler's pov

I speedily ate my sandwich, taking bites of it as I stared at the time on my phone screen. My best friend, Lizzy had called me about half an hour ago and invited me over to spend the night at her house. We were practicing some sort of science experiment for our high school talent show, and she figured that we could get done a lot faster if I just stayed the night at her house. Even though I was basically clueless about anything related to science, Lizzy was pretty good at it. With her parents being very experienced scientists, she had learned a thing or two from them.

There was technically no rush for me to get there, but I was rushing anyway. I just couldn't wait to get over there and hang out with her. People always joked that we spent way too much time with each other to be just best friends, but we didn't care, we were practically joined at the hip anyway. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a crush on her, but she didn't need to know that. I wasn't about to ruin our close friendship by admitting my stupid feelings, no matter how much I wished I could tell her.

I abandoned my half eaten sandwich and put my phone in the pocket of my jeans before heading out the door.

"Hi." I greeted Lizzy when she opened the door, smiling at me as I mirrored her expression.

"Hi." she reacted before inviting me inside and closing the door behind us.

"Are you sure your parents are ok with you having me over here on a school night?" I hesitantly asked just to make sure. Her parents weren't home at the moment, so it was just the two of us.

"Oh yeah, they're totally fine with it. They trust you. And the talent show is tomorrow so we don't really have a choice, do we?" she laughed as we walked past the couch. But I froze mid-step when I saw our other friends, Jenna and Tyler sitting on the couch.

"What are you guys doing here?" I questioned them. I didn't mean to sound so surprised but I had expected it to just be me and Lizzy here.

"Oh, hey, Kyler. We're just hanging out here for tonight. Both of our parents are out on a date night and we got bored." Jenna explained.

"Yeah, don't mind us though. You two can just go up to Lizzy's room, work on your little project and flirt with each other or whatever. You won't even know we're here." Tyler teased, grinning at me and Lizzy while Jenna giggled in the background.

I was sure that Lizzy was blushing, but she just laughed it off before heading up to her room. I trailed behind her, shaking my head a little as I glared at Tyler and Jenna, which just made them burst out laughing.

"So, what do you think we should make for our science experiment?" Lizzy asked me as we entered her room.

"I'm not sure. You know I'm kinda clueless about science. But you can tell me your ideas and I'll pretend like I understand what you're talking about." I joked, causing her to let out a giggle as she playfully hit my shoulder.

"Well, I was thinking maybe we could create some sort of serum that could benefit people somehow. Like an energy serum, which would eliminate the need for those unhealthy, artificial energy drinks. Ooh, or a serum that could make different foods taste better. So people could cut down on eating so much salt?" she excitedly explained her ideas, smiling brightly like she usually did whenever she talked about science, and I couldn't help but stare at her and smile. She must've noticed that I was looking at her though because she blushed when she glanced over at me. "I'm sorry if I'm talking too much. I just love science." she shyly apologized, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"You're not talking too much. I love to hear you talk." I reacted, her blushing even more at that.

"Thanks. But seriously though, tell me what your ideas areeeee." she playfully whined, dragging out the her words as I laughed.
