5.9 The beast Pt.1

Nellie and Leo are sitting beside each other in the car. Leo has a paper tissue in his nose to stop the blood. She looks over at him.
"I like your hair. Is it natural?" she asks. He looks in the mirror.
"No, it's colored. And I should color it again soon, it's starting to grow out" he says and looks at the bottom.
"Do you want to color it tonight?" she asks with a smile.
"Yeah, sure" he says happily. Before they go home they drive by the drug store and she gets two packages of back hair color.
"I only need one" he says.
"I know, one you, one for me" she says with a smile. He smiles back at her.

When they get home they stand in front of the mirror in the bathroom as Nellie helps him olor his hair. When she's done with his, she looks at her own.
"You know what, this is too damaged" she picks up a scissor and cuts it off bellow her earlobes. Leo widens his eyes at her and she laughs at him. He starts laughing too and she keeps cutting it. Then she hands him the scissor and he cuts it off in the back. After that she takes the hair color and he helps her color her hair.

Later that night, before sunset, Nellie takes Leo, Elvis, Elliot and Jack out to the forest to show them Harper's old cave to Elvis can explain to Leo how it all started and how it works. Leo looks around at the old stuff that are still there.
"Why hasn't anyone taken it from here?" he asks and turns to Elvis.
"Oak Valley forest is really big. This is deep into the forest. Not many mundane people goes here or even knows this place exists. And if they know, then they sure know about monsters. If they get this far they've seen one or two" Elvis explains.
"And the only mundanes that goes that deep are the hunters" Elliot says and looks at Elvis.
"The kids who were mean to you today. They're brothers. Ike and Kelley. Their father was a hunter before Elvis killed him and now they both know about monsters and that all four of us are monsters. They probably know a lot more than that. I think that's why they were picking on you. Because they've seen you with me and thought maybe you're a monster too" Nellie says sadly and looks at Leo.
"They wanted to test him." Elvis realizes. "They were picking on you because they wanted to see if you'd get mad and if your eyes would glow or anything that could tell them if you are and what you are" he says and turns to Leo. Leo nods understandingly.
"So, it wasn't my fault?" he asks.
"No, of course not" Nellie assures him. Elliot looks through the trees at the sun.
"We should probably head home. You don't want to be this deep into the forest with a mundane after dark" he says and starts walking toward the road. The others follow him.

As they approach the road, when the sun has gone down, they suddenly hear something from the forest. Both Elliot and Elvis stops to look at it while Nellie, Jack and Leo keeps walking. Leo can't hear it since he's a mundane.
"Nellie, I need to tell you something" Elvis says and Nellie walks back to Elvis. They walk a little behind the others.
"I threw out Sarah. She killed Spencer" He says not knowing how to start it.
"She killed her?" Nellie asks surpised.
"Yes. With a gun. And then she said that she would kill you too for taking me form her as a brother" Elvsi explains and Nellie stops.
"I didn't take shit from her! And why are you telling me this now?" Nellie asks upset.
"I wanted to tell you earlier I just didn't knwo how. And thenI wanted to wait a little longer so I could figure out how but I don't think I can wait any longer." he says insecurely.
"Why not?" she asks.
"Listen" Nellie closes her eyes and listens to the sound from the forest.
"I think that might be her" Elvis whispers as Nellie is listening to the sound of steps coming closer inside the forest. Before Nellie opens her eyes, A seemingly dark brown Fenrir jumps out of the woods and stands between Elvis, Nellie and the rest of them. Nellie opens her eyes and looks into the bright blue eyes of the biggest wolf she's ever seen. Elvis turns into a lion and before Murphy does anything, Elvis jumps at him pushing him away from Nellie as far as he can before Murphy throws him into a tree. Murphy jumps onto Nellie and Nellie lays on her back underneath him. He opens his mouth, about to bite her head off but before that, Elliot digs his claws into the sides of his stomach and bites a hold of his neck. Elliot manages to pull Murphy off of Nellie. Nellie runs into the forest again and hides on the side along with Jack.
"Wait! Where's Leo?" she asks and Jack finds Leo standing, frozen on the road looking up at the big wolf. Murphy turns to Leo and suddenly jumps at him. Nellie tries to run up but Jack holds her.
"You're gonna die if you go up there!" Jack hisses at her.
"Leo is going to die if I don't!" she hisses back and tries again but Jack holds her down. After a while, Murphy stands up straight before he runs away not looking back once. Nellie runs up to Leo, who's laying on the road still alive. Nellie looks at the teeth marks across Leo's body. His ribs are visible through his skin or whatever's left of his skin. Nellie sits down slowly beside him and turns to Elliot.
"Can you get turned by a Fenrir?" she asks.
"Possibly. But if not he'll bleed to death. We have to get him to a doctor but not a regular one. We can't risk they find anything." Elliot explains.
"No. We can't take him to a doctor. If they find something they'll expose everything and we'll be hunted again. And it'll be completely wasted since if they find anything he will survive anyway." Elvis says carelessly.
"But if we don't he'll die!" Nellie protests.
"He might!" Elvis yells back at her.
"Elvis, I will not leave him to die!" she holds Leo's cold hand as he struggles to breathe.
"Then take him with you! Save the corpse if you'd like." Elvis turns back to him.
"You are SO AFRAID of EVERYTHING!" Nellie yells at him with pure anger. "He is like my little brother! You know damn well what that feels like. You would never leave me to bleed to death. You would drag me with you and fix me yourself if you had to. But we can't fix this. His ribs are falling out of his body and if he has a chance to survive I will not let my little brother die." Nellie holds Leo closer. Elvis looks at her with pity and then he looks at Leo and recognizes him as the little brother she can see.
"I don't know a doctor that can look at him without exposing him. The only one I know is Nancy and she's a veterinarian. That will work for him once he turns but if he's not turning..." Elvis says and turns to Leo.
"I know a doctor." Jack says looking at Nellie with pity.

A while later Elvis, Jack and Nellie are waiting in the lobby of the hospital. Jack's aunt caroline comes out to them with some papers in her hand.
"He'll be fine." she says and Nellie sighs in relief.
"Will he turn?" Elvis asks seriously.
"He's already turning. The process is fast. Much faster than with a normal monster. He was bitten by a fenrir so what he turns into is out of my knowledge. He will not turn into a fenrir since there can only be one alive at a time. His genes has more tendencies to turn into a lion or a hawk but I can't see any catlike or birdlike cells turning in his blood. It's slowly rearanging so that might change. But as far as I know he's turning into something I've never seen before. I suggest you keep him in his room all night. Barricade the windows and lock the door. Nellie, you need to protect you parents. When he turns we have no idea what that will look like and what he will do. Or try to do." Caroline explains.
"I'll get Aiden to stay with you tonight. If he tries anything He'll keep him down." Elvis says and turns to Nellie.
"I can tell him that myself" she gives him a glare.
"Thank you, aunt Caroline." Jack says to Caroline.
"I'm glad I could help. He needs some time to wake up. You should go get some food, it's lunch time." She says with a smile. They start walking out and Jack waves at Caroline.
"Nellie?" Nellie and Elvis turns to Caroline again.
"When he has turned I would like you to bring him back to me. I want to take a look at him again to see what he is. For safety reasons." Caroline says and smiles.
"I will." Nellie smiles back and they walk out.
