Silence in the air heating only the weeps of the woman who was so attached to the soft billowy fabric of my shirt... I only rested my hand to comfort her. It seems no time passed as we stood there in each other's arms. It was so strange to hold someone so close yet having no idea of the others' despair was about, all we knew is we needed somebody. she stifled back as she lifted an arm to block her eyes from wetting any further, a mumbled 'thank you' was heard from her sallow voice. I clear the mucus building in his throat and within the cough, I whisper out a quick, 'no problem,' with a chance of no response. But Shelby was intensively listening and nodded her head in silence... then moved forward into the grassy field. The crunch of the needle-like grass echoed through the blue painted sky. her voice reached out to me yelling "are you coming?"

my eyes softened at her and walked to her side, my body moved toward the hobbit height woman. "So where are we going?" I said, grabbing the strap of my coffee-colored leather pouch. "Somewhere useful," she spits out in a tone that was full of deceit. "Shrub, where is that?" with inflection in my tone questioning her words; "just follow me, wil" she said, rolling her eyes as she fastened her pace. "ah- okay you don't have to leave me behind Shrub." Then she mumbles some words I couldn't. exactly make out.

Quietness overtook the air we both breathed wondering why we might be following each other... trusting each other.

Sometimes I wonder how we got here... left to fend for ourselves in an unforgiving world. It is remembering each one of my mistakes today and the distorted world view I caused for my people. All it truly was a haze blocking the truth, only protecting my wants but not their needs. With each step I take forward trying to remind myself where I stood. I was in a field of grass but not any, burned. one in the sake of ruin. The char swallowing any green you would hope to see, it was only further like this deeper the forest went.

I saw one burning flame left, it was tiny as if it didn't not cause the world to reek in shadows. I inch closer to the flame curious of its light and how it still burned with nothing to catch fire to. It was alluring with its warmth. as I was in reach of its warmth I heard a crack. Then a voice reached out to lend fear to invoke...

"hello."

"Hey Shelby, how close are we..." I moaned for we have walked for almost Five hours. Not Five but it's not necessarily short either.

"Wilbur, I believe we are almost there." She says firmly compared to my choice of tone. Which I find weirdly annoying— WAIT SHE SAID ALMOST! "You don't know where we are, do you?!"

"Wilbur, I know the general location!"

"that doesn't sound like you know either,"

"shut up, we are almost there!"

"there's that word almost again!"

"WILBUR. we are here!" frustration coating every word she just spoke, it was kinda funny. I turn my head from Shub Berry and see a large magnolia tree in the midst of its bloom. All the petals on the verge of spilling out the castings that held it in. Shub began feeling out the environment beginning to step closer to the large tree, she howled out "Mother Wolf!" her voice echoed throughout the air. As she met the feet of the tree, she laid her hand on the tree bark when the petals finally bloomed from their capsules that restrained its beauty.

"h-how— how did you do that?" In utter confusion I spoke, shocked by the girl's ability to cause a sudden bloom of flowers.

"Wilbur. Shh." she says in a harsh voice, telling me to quiet down. My eyes wide open, throwing my hands up to try to portray my innocence. 'Mother Wolf' she shouted once more to only hear a crunching noise as a larger wolf stepped out of the shrubbery. Shrub Racing to her petting the dog's off white fur coat as the wolf nuzzled her face in her chest. "Is this her dog or some shit" I whisper to myself only to the Dog wolf thing head daggering upwards to stare at me. A soft growl slipped the dog's mouth as Shelby tried to calme it. "Mother wolf, he's a friend. it's okay." She says into the pets mane.

"oh you're getting old missy," she says as a small grin meets her cheeks. The Wolf buries her head to Shrub's coat. While shrubs whisper something into its ear. A big roar comes from the animal's mouth as it begins licking her face. "Aw aren't you just a present," I say walking near the furry friend. I go into pets. It's white fur coat nipping at my hand. "Mother wolf!" she said sternly, "he's a friend!" The Dog lays her head down on Shrub's lap giving me a mean glare. 'How does this animal already hate me?' I thought to myself. I decided to sit next to Shrub, laying my head on the back of the tree trunk. "So what are we doing here?" I sigh out.

"She is going to guide us!"

"what!?" I lean in closer to her ear, whispering, "I think she's gonna bite my hand off... isn't that enough of a reason not?"

"she isn't going to bite your hand off, wilbur!" she whispers back. For a moment I thought she was going to say those words aloud, that for sure would've gotten my hand bitten off.

"Mother wolf, can you guide us to the nearest town?" she says to the white fur wolf. The wolf began to lift her head from the girl's lap. 'Mother wolf' started to walk without a second thought and shubble followed. "Wilbur, come on!"
