Together Or Not At All

Katniss

The next day i can smell and see smoke but I can't feel it. It must have been a trick of the game makers because when we go to check it out there is nothing on fire for a 50 mile radius but there is a lot of burnt trees so I know that they where trying to fry someone alive. Bastards. We go to the river to wash of and find someone else washing of. Katniss!! As soon as she sees us she bolts. We all start cheering and running after her-me feeling like a dick for trying to kill her-she starts climbing a tree and she is a few metres up when we catch up to her.

Cato goes up first, as soon as he is on the first branch Katniss starts climbing again. After a few metres Cato comes crashing back to earth swearing and spitting. Katniss has stopped. Then glimmer goes up but Katniss stays put. After 7 metres she has the good sense to stop and she tries to shoot an arrow at Katniss. It is pretty obvious that she doesn't know how to work the weapon but she does get it lodged just next to Katniss's foot that makes me cringe with fear. Katniss picks up the arrow and holds it tauntingly above glimmer like a spear. Glimmer comes down. Now it is my turn, i start climbing but at about the same spot i pretend to slip and i fall down. Cato catches me and i jump out of his arms.

"Guys why don't we just stay here for the night its not like she can go anywhere."Peeta suggests.

Cato grudgingly agrees and we all follow. We arrange a system to guard and its my turn first. As everyone else falls asleep i lay wide awake and make a silent prayer for Katniss.

I must have fallen asleep but am wide awake now. I wake up to an attack, there are tracker jackers everywhere-we learned about them in district 2-the wasps have gone into full on attack mode.

"To the lake"we cry.

In all the noise and havoc we are unaware that we have left a screaming glimmer behind. As we dive into the lake i think about Katniss and how genius her idea was. Then the cannon goes of.

With Cato in the lead we head back to the attack spot, there are no tracker jackers anymore but there is Peeta telling Katniss to run. As she runs off i catch a glimpse of silver. Cato is furious with Peeta and slashes a gaping hole in his thigh. Peeta falls and we walk away. Then we see Glimmer.

She is lying on her front at an odd angle and quite certainly dead. I also notice that she doesn't have the bow and arrows and then i think of Katniss and the sliver of silver. So that's her weapon i think to myself. Cato tells us that we should get back to camp so we follow him. As soon as we get back to camp i black out.

When i wake i see Cato has some ointment and is rubbing it on his bites but it isn't doing much.

"Hey Cato"i say, "take the stingers out that might help."

He does and the lumps immediately go down.

"Wow, thanks Clove. Here put some of this on your stings it helps with the pain." I do and feel immediate relief.

"where's marvel"i ask,

"he's combing the woods near the river, thinks he'll find Katniss. Told him that it was pointless and that if she has stayed alive for this long that she will know to not stay out in the open."

"Yeah" I reply.

Maybe she hasn't hidden, maybe marvel will get her i think to myself. Cato sees my concern and thinks its cause I'm hungry, he gets up and after a few seconds comes back and gives me an apple and a piece of bread.

"Thought you might be hungry after your nap." He jokes.

"How long where we asleep for" i ask.

"We. No i woke up the night we got attacked and marvel woke up yesterday. But it killed me that you weren't awake, not just because you helped my stings i mean this was supposed to be TOGETHER or not at all right."he says in a meaningful tone, we stop talking as Marvel comes back his eyes red and puffy.

"You all right bro" Cato asks, his voice immediately changing from angry to concerned.

"Yeah...just thinking about...gl...glimmer"he says with tears in his eyes. "He...hey is that smoke?"Marvel says pointing to the top of a hill.

We tell Ian to guard the camp with his life and then we start running. When we get to the campfire no one is there but i do congratulate the fire starter on there work with the fire. Then we see smoke rising from another campfire. As we run there is a booooom. We look down the hill and see a black cloud of smoke erupting right where our supples are!!

"KATNISSSSSS" Cato cries.

We leave Marvel to find the fire starter and head down to our once glorious supply pile.

As we approach we see Ian walking around the supplies and muttering to himself. I try to hold Cato back but he shoves me roughly. I know what he is going to do so i follow after him to try and persuade him not to snap Ians neck but as I run over Cato puts his arm around Ian's neck. Ian looks at me pleadingly but i know my efforts will do nothing. And then Ian falls too the ground.

"Cato"i scream, "why...why would you" then i pretend to faint and fall to the ground.

You know that feeling where you want to hurt someone stronger than you physically but you know that they will hurt you back. So you want to hurt them mentally. Then you don't want to hurt them because they mean something to you. That is exactly how i felt.

"Clove, Clove, wake up Clove. CLOVEEEEEEE" Cato screams. He falls to his knees and starts hugging me. "Please Clove, wake up"he pleads.

By this time i am enjoying the pain that i am putting him through. Then he starts trying to do cpr and I pretend to wake up so he doesn't break my ribs. I go into the tent and get the remaining food we have. Then I get a backpack i managed to salvage and stuff all the food in. Then Cato comes in.

"You didn't happen to have been pulling my leg did you"he asks, not menacingly but with enough malice to know that he wasn't joking.

"What do you mean"I say, scared but hoping he doesn't notice.

"Did you honestly care about that boy? It's not like he was important, or. That he was Katniss ."

"Yeah but you killed him, did you even think about what you where doing"

"you know how angry i get Clove...so..no i wasn't thinking."
