"You need to be more careful now Ayumi. Your heart is getting weaker. You need to take a rest more often and stay away from getting too stressed." Sambit sakin ng Cardiologist na si Doc Lee.
Mom looked at me worried then proceeded to speak with her. "Can she still attend school with her condition?"
Dr. Lee nod. "She still can but she needs to be careful like I always remind her. You need to take your meds on time too. Also, I heard from Reiji that you're good at singing."
"She is." Mom proudly responds. "She's also a member of the Glee Club in school."
"Then that's more beneficial for you! Singing is good therapy for your heart. It improves your heart function and heart rate variability." She explained further.
"I'm planning to quit Glee Club actually to focus more on my treatment. I can still sing without it."
And para na rin mas may extra time ako to help Mom run our Ramen shop. Especially now that Dad is not there to help her anymore because he finds a new job para lang may pang dagdag sa mga treatments na kailangan ko. Running a small Ramen shop is not enough for us to earn money for my condition especially na dalawa kaming pinag aaral nila. I still have my older brother who's already studying in college and me who's in high school. Tapos dumagdag pa 'tong heart disease ko.
I don't want to be a treat. That's why I want to sacrifice Glee Club to help my parents earn for my treatment.
"Ayumi, kilala kita. I know you're not only doing this just because you want to focus on your treatment. We can't let you work at the Ramen shop. It will be a big risk for you."
Dr. Lee gave me a weak smile. "Your mom is right, Ayumi. If you want to focus on your treatment.. then, please don't quit your school club. I can see in you that singing is not just a hobby to you. It's your passion. Singing makes you the happiest."
Mom reassured me. "Hindi ka pabigat, okay? Do what makes your heart desire. Let us just handle everything and just focus on making your heart healthy and happy."
It kinda sounds selfish to me. I don't want to be a burden but they're right. My life became shorter than I expected. If I die one day, I want to have no regrets about accomplishing what I desire in my life the most.
As we are about to leave her examination room, I once take a glance at Dr. Lee. "Can I ask you a favor, Dr?"
She smiled. "Anything."
"Please keep my heart disease hidden from your son, Reiji. I don't want him or my other friends to know about it. Ayokong makita silang nag aalala."
She nod. "Don't worry, I won't. But just a reminder Ayumi. If you don't want them to get hurt, even more. You still have to tell them sooner."
[Music Room, after club registration]
Mahigpit akong niyakap ni Kat matapos naming makarating sa music room for our first meeting.
After what happened the other day, naisip kong tama si mom at ang mom ni Reiji.
What already happened to me was fortunate but it doesn't mean that it should affect my determination in life.
All of the people that are close to me know that I think of others foremost before myself. So considering myself first is kinda weird for me but I guess, It's somehow rewarding.
It feels nice to think of yourself din pala.
Who knows, having a heart disease is not that bad."I'm so happy that you change your mind, Ayumi! Ewan ko ba naman kasi sayo, dami mong drama nung isang araw tapos sasali ka pa din pala. Papansin ka rin eh!" Humiwalay siya sa pag yakap sakin tiaka niya ko binatukan.
