Suddenly, I hear a loud boom, like a bomb exploding. My dad shouts something like "We're under attack" and pushes me towards Owen and the man from the castle. Where did he come from? I didn't see him get out of the truck. I look for my father, but can't see him through the smoke. I go to find him but feel a hand pulling me back.
"You have to come with me--we need to get out of here! Owen is on his way out and you need to stay safe!" the man from the castle shouts at me
"Why should I trust you? I barely know you and you tranquilized me! Where's Owen?!" I ask accusingly.
"Trust me! Owen is trying to find the way out. I don't know if this is a good time, but...I'm your brother! My name is Jackson!" he shouts over the gunfire.
"What! Since when did I have a brother? And where exactly are we?" I ask while running to the door.
"Come on! We are on an island owned by both our father and mother known as Cameo. I am your twin. I know it is a lot to take in but you have to keep moving despite all the raging feelings you probably feel. I have only recently learned this myself!" He shouts, finding Owen at the door to leave the office.
"I don't know what's going on out there but it doesn't sound good. There are people everywhere. Some are in tan and some are in red. I keep shooting all who are in red and not tan because, well, I think that is the right color to shoot! We have to get out of here; this place looks like it is about to catch fire!" Owen shouts, grabbing my hand and running out the door.
"This way!" my brother shouts, grabbing my other hand.
The boys shoot wildly through the smoke that has become the compound. We see the light in a doorway, running all the harder, the boys not even bothering to look where they shoot. One of them accidently shoots my ankle. I scream and slow down significantly, not keeping up with Owen. Jackson runs ahead to see what it looks like outside. As we break through the door, we realize that the compound is surrounded by soldiers Owen had been shooting. Some of our soldiers are standing with their guns on the ground in front of them and their hands on their heads. I am now limping and Jackson notices...
"What happened?" He asks seemingly oblivious of the crowd of people
"I am fine, are you okay?" I ask, clearly lying.
"Yeah, I'm fine, how are you Owen?" He asks.
"For now, I think that we all are okay but may have a slight problem soon. I'm out of ammo, Beca is injured, and we are surrounded by enemy soldiers, I think." he says, sounding unsure of himself.
"Who shot her? I don't consider myself a doctor but it doesn't look too serious. We should find someone to stitch her up, otherwise, it may get serious." He says, lowering himself to inspect my ankle.
"That won't be necessary. I can fix her right up if you come with me and drop your weapons," a lady says whilst grabbing my arm and pulling something out of her belt.
"I don't think so," Jackson says quite plainly.
"Fine, have it your way," she says as she whirls around, putting a gun to the side of my face and taking my arms, placing them behind my back. "I will shoot her if I must."
"You wouldn't, she's too important. We won't let you," Jackson says while he and Owen pull out their guns pointing them at her.
"I will, and those don't affect me, considering I am in charge of all the soldiers in this area. She really needs the medical attention and I know just who could give it to her," she says while a familiar woman approaches the woman holding me.
It's mom. It can't be. I can't see her anymore but I can feel her touching my ankle. She may be trying to be gentle but it really hurts. I scream loudly. Owen starts toward me but is held back by the soldiers who now surround him and Jackson. I try to squirm out of the woman's hold on me, and my ankle becomes so painful that it is the only thing I can focus on. I stop struggling for just a moment and the lady starts to take me away.
"No...you can't take me away from them," I say, barely hearing my own words.
"She is going to pass out, that snake got her good. If we don't get her to a doctor, she may soon die," a commanding voice says
"NO, YOU CAN'T TAKE HER AWAY! WE WILL FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM AND HERS!" Jackson shouts with everything he has in him.
"Please, don't leave them." I say, using the last of my strength before passing out.
"We won't." my Mother says.
