The Host

Chapter 8

I fall asleep in Ian's arms.
His strong arms are wrapped around me and I feel safe. I know that I can trust the people that know my secret, will keep my secret. I know that I'll have to tell Logan sometime soon. But how? And when?

I wake up, still in Ian's arms, but he's in deep sleep. I get out of his grip, sit on his lap and kiss him. When I pull away, his mouth turns into a smile and he opens his eyes, I get lost in his eyes.
"Why do you keep doing that?" I ask.
"No clue," he says.

"Strange world, isn't it?" Ian says.
"Strangest," I say, smiling.
"Yeah."
He kisses me, he puts his right hand on the right side of my jaw. Ian kisses my neck and I grab the back of his shirt. Then there's a knock on the door and we pull away from each other.

Ian answers and it's Logan.
"What are you doing here?" Logan asks.
"She needed to talk to me and I was just leaving," Ian says.
Ian leaves and Logan sits next to me.
"I came here earlier, but you were asleep and I wanted to tell you something," he says.
"What?" I ask.

"I know," he says.
"You know what?" I ask, a little nervous.
"That you're going to have a kid in just under nine months. And I also know that Ian is the dad of that kid."
"And you're not mad at Ian?"
"No. I just want him to treat you right."

"He is," I say.
"Good," he says.
"Do you have an eye for any girl here?"
"Yeah, but she wouldn't go out with a boy like me... Because of my eyes."
"So? Ian wanted to kill me because I had a Soul in me, but he fell in love with my personality."

"I mean, we're friends, but would she be my girlfriend?" Logan asks.
"You shouldn't come to me for this, ask Ian why he became my boyfriend," I say.
"Okay."
Logan leaves.

About two hours later, Melanie walks into my room.
"You sent your brother to your boyfriend for girl advice?" she asks.
"Yeah, he's insecure about what's inside him," I say.
"That he's a Soul?"
"Yeah."

I feel bad for Logan.
"Jared and Ian are helping Logan," she says.
"Well if it works out with Logan and his girl, I'll have to say 'thank you' to both of them," I say, smiling.
