I didn't want the car, but since I had it, I drove to my grandma's house because it was still unsold and I had a key. It was empty and clean inside. Fresh paint to make it attractive to people who didn't want the weight of our past in their new home. I sat in the middle of the floor and signed the divorce papers. Dean had signed them first already, so all it took was my signature. I'm glad he signed first because I worried he wouldn't sign them now. I completed a divorce from the middle of my family home. My grandma and my mom had made something warm and lovely out of their marriages, and I didn't, but I felt just as warm and lovely as ever right then.
I rushed back home and opened my laptop.
The email from Café Us was still there. Someone named Kathleen had asked me to respond or to call, so I did. I apologized for it taking so long and told her I had just signed divorce papers.
"I know," Kathleen responded. "I read the blog."
Within an hour I had an offer emailed to me. Kathleen and Café Us offered me the chance to run my blog under the Café Us banner, joining a group of blogs they were hoping would expand the Café Us reach. The offer included a salary, signing bonus, and a cut of advertiser money across all of the food blogs they added. I would also become the managing editor of all the food blogs they curated in the future. If I wanted to talk to one of the other independent bloggers they recently picked up, I could reach out to Sandee from Sandee Says.
Instead, I called my mom. "How much are you asking for grandma's house? I just got a new job and I think I can afford it."

I packed up the townhouse and drove everything to my grandma's house, my house, in a few trips. I dropped everything off in the living room, Erica and David helping to stack my boxes and offering to help with the unpacking. I told them I would get around to it. For now, all I really needed was a bed and my laptop set up in the other bedroom, which was now my office. I had writing and reading to do.
After I emptied the townhouse, I drove to Dean's parents and left the car out front. I had heard he was living with Kyle, but I knew he'd find the car at some point. I left the townhouse key on the driver's seat. He'd figure it out. I walked to my parents' house and had my dad drive me to the dealership to pick out a new car.
My first full-time job, a new home, and a new car. I could sink into this and enjoy it.
