A/N: I've made some changes to past chapters, just one sort of thing concerning Leonide has changed but I'm sure it's fairly noticeable. The fully updated version of the story is on Quotev, I'm still in the process of editing the past chapters for Wattpad. Happy reading!
Refined, repeating footsteps follow after the heavy footfalls of none other than the king himself, otherwise known as Leonide's father. Silvered hair adorned with fabulous crown jewels as he wore an ashen grey suit, he walked confidently in even a dimly lit section of the palace. The walls seemed to be crumbling, aged terribly, as the stone was now plagued with moss and cracks. Nevertheless, the steel beams seemed to be holding up the structure well.
Leonide tailed behind his father, head held low as the walls soon changed to bars at either side of him, indicating they had reached the lower levels beneath the palace, containing the most recent criminals their nation had captured. The bars were the front of various prison cells, holding weary and fatigued prisoners of war amongst other people that were yet to be given a trial but were deemed too dangerous to roam free.
Eventually, the king stops in front of a well-kept prison with a gleaming silver barrier. Inside were several faces captured from Nabet, deemed of too high a rank to be treated like the other people that were captured.
"As my son, I want you to decide what we will do with these royals from Nabet. Since you were the one to capture them, you should be the one to decide but you know very well what I expect of you," The king mumbles to Leonide in a low tone, his shining deep blue eyes piercing into his son's frame.
"Must I decide now?" Leonide responds, his gaze avoiding the king as he stares at his charcoal leather shoes.
"No," The king simply replies, shaking his head slightly in disappointment. "Who would know the next in line to the throne would grow up to be so soft."
"There is no point in killing them, father. Everybody practically thinks they are dead already and it would serve of no use to us. We can instead put them to work as we did with the princess," Leonide suggests.
"And for what? These people have not served their country well, and I only allowed the princess to work for you as reward. What you do with her I have no clue, as from what I hear all you two do is argue. Remember not to tolerate any disrespect, you are an image of me. If you can't keep that maid under control, I won't refuse to cut her tongue," The king threatens Leonide before looking down at the people before him, who were too tired to move, several of them even napping from exhaustion. "Make sure you don't tell anybody they are still alive, not even that maid of yours. Understood?"
"Understood, father," Leonide accepts, bowing his head slightly before standing up straight again. His lip purses as he looks down at royals confined to the prison. "Have you been feeding them?"
"All of the prisoners are kept fed suitably by the knights. I'll be returning to my office now, I want you to think about what we should do with them since you refuse to execute them already. All you've done is give us more problems to deal with. Why can't you just get things done and stop making duties difficult?" The king hisses at Leonide to shame him before hastily leaving into the shadows, towards the exit.
Leonide stands there, slightly taken aback by the constant degrading from his father. An elder looks up at him from behind the bars, opening his mouth slightly to indicate he was about to say something as he laid sideways on the cold cobblestone floor. Noticing this, Leonide hastily kneels down and brings his pale face near the metal to signal he was listening.
"Is it true? Are you being rude to my [Name]?" The old man croaks with a dry voice.
Leonide detaches his small water flask from his belt and hands it to his elder without sparing any time while he speaks: "I am sorry, I do not handle my tempter well. Her temper is nearly as bad as mine though it is understandable as she, like everyone else, thinks you are dead," He sighs, "Drink up, there is water inside for you and the rest."
