Eponine's POV

I stand amongst many other street rats listening to the revolutionaries give their speeches as usual. We crowd around a small platform on which the men were standing on. Usually I would be spending time with my father and his group of thieves planning who we are going to rob next, but today I particularly wanted to come see these men speak; the men who my father wants to steal from. He has always supported the revolution so he can "clean up" after the barricade falls; if the barricade ever rises.

Since I am farther back from the platform, I cannot see the men who are speaking. However, once in a while I can spot a bit of curly blond hair. Even though I can’t see them, I can hear them. They were talking about the revolution and how they need our support. They ended with a spirited “Vive la France!” The crowed echoed them in response and then cleared away.

I could clearly see the men who were speaking earlier. One was a blond, curly haired man and the other was a brown haired green eyed man. The guy with brown hair caught my eye. He was the most handsome man I have ever seen. He is dressed in rich people’s clothes so expected he was snobby like most of the rich people. Even with that though, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. He and the blond started talking and walking my way.

Even though they were walking slowly, I rushed to hide. I ran behind a building and waited for a while. I peeked around the corner to see the men closer to me than they were. As I watched, the blond turned around and started walking in the other direction. The brown haired man was coming my way.

‘There must be a way that we could meet,’ I think to myself. I had to come up with something fast because he was walking faster than when he was with the blond. When he was about five feet away, I put my back against the wall of the building and waited three seconds. ‘One…two…three…” I turned and quickly walked out from behind the building pretending not to see him coming.

He knocks into me and sends me toppling to the ground. I can’t help, but smile. My plan had worked. I tuck a piece of hair behind my ears and then look up at him. He is more handsome up close. He smiles down at me and takes my hands. He pulls me up to my feet.

“Forgive me mademoiselle, I did not see you there,” His deep voice reaches my ears. I smile and blush a little.

“I wasn’t looking either so part of the fault is mine,” I say as I brush myself off, “May I ask your name M’sieur.” I look down slightly so he can’t see a smile form in the corner of my mouth.

“My name is Marius. Marius Pontmercy.” He shakes my hand as I look at him again. “And you are?” ‘This is going really well,’ I think. Usually rich boys would have not helped me up, much less ask me my name. They would have just used the name “street rat.”

“My name is Eponine Thenardier,” I shyly look up at him.

“Well, mademoiselle, it was a pleasure meeting you, but I better be on my way. Maybe our paths will cross again.” With that he smiled at me and then continued on his way. I couldn’t help, but stare at him until he was out of sight. He had been so nice. This could be love at first sight; at least for me. Maybe it was a half a love at first sight.
