I feel a light tap on my shoulder, but feel so tired that I decide to ignore it. I feel another one and I start to get annoyed. I bet it's my parents waking me up to tell me they're going out to rob a house or something. I feel another one and reluctantly open my eyes.

For a second I don't remember where I am, but I feel the algid ground underneath me and I remember that I was waiting for Marius. I still don't feel like moving, but I grudgingly get up into a sitting position. I rub my eyes and then look around.

I feel a presence near me and look up to see a dark figure standing above me. My eyes take a while to adjust, but when they do I realize that the person standing before me is Marius.

At first, I'm shocked. I have fallen asleep out on the street before and nobody has come to check on me. Then I get a warm feeling inside. Marius came to check on me? That means he remembers me; that he actually cares for me! Either that or he is just a kind person in general.

"Mademoiselle, what's a pretty woman like yourself resting in a place like this?"

I feel my face growing red. He thinks I'm pretty? He's probably just being polite.

"M'sier, you may not remember me, but I believe we met earlier today." I say as I look up at him. This time I'm going to try to be less shy.

"Of course I remember you Eponine! I wouldn't forget a person such as you!" I can't help, but smile at this. My plan hadn't gone exactly as I had hoped, but I still like the results.

Marius brings a hand down in front of me and I graciously take it. He helps me up and I brush myself off a bit.

"Shall we walk Eponine?"

"It would be my pleasure to."

Marius and I walk through the streets talking about our lives. I told him things I never told anybody before (which is easy because I haven't had many friends). I explained my life style to him and the conditions I live in. As I speak about how poor I am, a look of concern crosses Marius's face; however, he never interupts me.

I never mention anything about my parents and what they do and I never intend to. Marius doesn't need to know that my parents are criminals. He especially doesn't need to know that I help them occasionally.

Unfortunatly, we eventually came to Marius's house (more like mansion).

"Well, it has been a pleasure spending the evening with you Eponine! I hope we can continue our conversation some other time!" Marius says as he stands in the doorway.

"Of course, M'sier! I will always be walking around in the streets so we will probably see each other again!"

"I'll see you later 'Ponine" A rush of excitement comes over me. He has a nickname for me? That means he thinks of us as at least friends! He smiles and steps inside his house. He looks at me one more time, winks and the gently shuts the door.

I head back for my house feeling like the happiest person in the world.
