I start to head out in the morning to go to my special place; a place where I can think and sort out my emotions. This place looks like it's not much; in fact, most people would avoid going near it. It's an abandoned building that nobody has stepped foot in for several years.

The old, decaying wood makes the building looks unstable and makes it seem that anything could cause the building to crumble. I like it because it is isolated and quiet; a good place where I can think and not be interupted.

I ususally just sit on the doorstep, with my back against the door frame (there isn't a door). The building is somewhat hidden from view if you were to pass on the street, but there is an allyway that leads to it.

I am walking down the street looking at all of the shops. Most of them are closed because it is so early, but I sometimes enjoy looking in the windows; I only do this when I'm in a good mood because sometimes the items just remind my that I will never have them because I'm so poor.

As I'm walking, I see in one window the most beautiful scarf; it was big enough to cover my shoulders and looks thick enough to warm me. I feel the chilling breeze which makes goosebumps form on my shoulders and I look longingly at the scarf.

I quickly turn and walk away; not wanting to hope for something that I'm never going to be able to get.

I hear a loud roar in the sky and look up to see the gray clouds form above me. I feel a drop of water on my skin and then another and then another. Soon it is lightly raining. I rush to the alleyway and try to get to the building before the rain gets heavier and more intense.

I tuck my self into the door way as far as I can as I hear the rhythmic pounding of the raindrops on the roof. I shouldn't have come today. I figured it was going to rain from the clouds, but I wanted to go to a place where I could think things out. I can't concentrate on anything with the booming sound of rain above me. Now I'm trapped here, mostly soaked until the rain stops.

I wait for what it seems like hours even though it probably was only a half and hour. I hear a noise that sounds like a splash. My head snaps in that direction and suddenly I become more alert. I get up in case I need to make a quick escape and I keep my eyes glued at the entrance to the alleyway.

Suddenly I see a man wearing a long jacket and a hat on. He's looking down so I can't see his face. I try to keep still and not make any noise, but a freezing drop of water falls on my arm and makes me yelp a bit; mostly because it was cold and unexpected.

The man looks up and I am met with Marius's piercing green eyes.

"Eponine, what are you doing here?"

"I come here sometimes to think," I say. I pause for a long moment before I start talking again, "You can probably say that this is a special place; at least to me."

"This place has special value for me too. Do you know what this place used to be?" I shake my head. This place is special for Marius too?

"This used to by my father's friend's house; well I guess he was my friend too. We would come visit and he would always have a present for me, even though I didn't need them. Sadly his house caught fire one day and killed him and his family. The house didn't burn to ashes as you can tell, but nobody has used it as a house ever since. My father and I were supposed to visit them the day after the house caught fire, but it never happened."

"Oh, Marius I'm so sorry!" I say. I can't imagine what memories this place brings back for Marius. I'm now a little hesitant about coming back here because now when I want to clear my thoughts and think things out, I'll think of the sad story Marius told.

"Well, would you like to walk around M'sier?" I ask. Marius chuckles lightly.

"But it's raining Mademoiselle! I wouldn't want you to catch a cold!"

"M'sier, a little rain won't hurt me!" Marius holds out his arm and I take it. We just walk and talk in the rain for hours.
