.

27 years before the incident.

"Shane!" I whispered loudly, knocking lightly on his window. I watched as he jumped off of his bed and stumbled to the window, lifting it up and looking at me.

"What are you doing here this late?" He questioned me, excitement roaming his eyes, the street lights flickered in front of his house.

"It's only..." I stuttered for a second checking my phone. "11?" I laughed, grabbing his arm, attempting to pull him out.

"Give me a second." He whispered, running to his door, locking it and putting an extra jacket on.
He shoved some pillows under the covers and ran back to the window.

"Do you need help?" I asked, reaching a hand out for him. He quickly waved me off and grunted as he lifted himself onto the window sill.

I watched as he jumped down and hit the ground. His window was a bit far away from the ground although he was on the first floor.

"Here, get on my shoulders." He kneeled down. "We need to crack my window." I did as he said and got on his shoulders, he lifted me up easily and I pulled on his window silently, leaving it a bit open on the bottom, before I could get down he began to run.

"Woah!" I laughed, wrapping my arms around his neck. He ran through the road and to the other side, he quickly set me down and we both fell over in the process. Laughing our asses off.

"Godamnit!" I said laughing, rubbing my head with the heel of my hand. He helped me up and we continued to run, to the front of the forest and to the creek.

We sat on a large rock and looked out to the water, I looked over and grabbed his hand. He looked at me in shock, his face turning red.

"Thank you." I spoke softly, he lost words for a second before answering.

"I love you." He blurted out, I felt our hands get sweaty and my face began to tingle. "I-i mean, like, in a friend, friendly way-" He stuttered, letting go of my hand and rubbing the back of his neck.

"Me too." I responded, tilting his head up and smiling. I think he noticed my face was red too because we both began nervously laughing. It was silent for a second so I put my hands on his back and pushed him into the water. SPLASH! I chuckled as I heard him in shock.

"Damn you!" He yelled, grabbing onto my legs and pulling me in, my life flashed before my eyes as he submerged me into the cold water, I stayed underwater for a second, just floating, before he pulled me back up.

We began splashing each other uncontrollably. I hurried to take off my dress, I had shorts and a long sleeve turtleneck underneath, I threw my soggy dress over on the rock and threw myself onto him, we went underwater and he grabbed my waist. Raising me up and throwing me back under. When I came back up we were both soaked, It was fall so the temperatures were dropping.

"Ho-ly shit!" I yelled, looking at myself, "What am I gonna tell my mom!" I gasped, laughing in between breaths.

"I can sneak you back in." He said, his hands on his knees. We both walked out of the water and had a deep conversation while ringing out our clothes.

"When we grow up, we are gonna move in together alright?" I said, clacking my shoes against a tree to get the water out. I listened as he let out a small chuckle.

"I'm being serious! We will go to Hawaii and live by the beach. Paint the skies together, swim in the ocean, go cliff diving." I went on, and he listened.

"I don't know about the cliff diving..." He said, vigorously shaking his hands through his hair to dry it.

"Oh don't be a pussy!" I yelled, smiling, ringing out my dress.

"Oh, I'm the pussy?" He asked? Tilting his head, I grabbed my shoes and ran, knowing he would catch up soon. I giggled as I ran deeper into the woods. Dodging tree branches and large rocks. I ducked behind a tree and looked around for him, he was gone.

"Shane?" I came out from behind the tree. The forest was pitch black and I felt my spine shiver.

"Shane! This isn't funny!" I yelled, I heard a rustle behind me and quickly turned.

"Boo!" I heard him yell, grabbing my arms, I screamed. And I think I scared him worse by how high pitched my scream was.

We were both on the dirt floor panting. And then an outburst of laughter.

"I really meant it though Y/N." he stammered.

"Meant what?" I followed.

"That I love you." He smiled, looking up into the night sky. I didn't know what to say, so I kissed him.

His lips were soft, and our bodies began to explore each other, he ran his fingers through my damp hair. Our lips separated and our eyes met, diving into each other. But before I let it continue I pulled apart, wishing I didn't have to.

"It's really late.." I said, dusting the dirt and debris off of me. He stood up and put out his hand, lifting me up. "I'll walk you home." He smiled, wiping my lipstick off of his lips.

We began our trek to my house, it was a bit farther than his. It was 2:00 when I got back, I gave him a peck on the cheek and ran to my house. I turned around to give him a wave goodbye. His flustered face smiled at me.

I slowly opened the back door to the house and inched myself in, closing the door and locking it behind me. I tiptoed through the kitchen and into the dining room. Looking into the living room to make sure my father wasn't on the couch. I slowly sneaked back to my room and shut the door behind me, a sigh of relief.

"How was it?" I heard in a pilloried tone. I quickly turned around to see my mom sitting on my bed. My eyes widened, knowing I wasn't gonna like what came next..

"I knew right once you left Y/N, you didn't even try to fucking be quiet." She blared. "You're lucky your goddamn father didn't wake up, I'd tell him but he would probably beat you to death."

She put her hand on her forehead, running her hand through her long fried blonde hair. She stared at me for a second before slapping me across the face, I fell to the ground as she whispered to me in an aggressive tone.

"Don't scream, I don't want the cops called again."
