The next morning, I rise early and decide to shower to wash yesterdays events away. when I'm done, I throw on some shorts and a sports bra and begin drying my hair. it was naturally a poofy wavy mess, and the only way to tame it was to blow-dry and straighten it. by the time I was done my hair and makeup, Enid had woken up, stumbling groggily into the bathroom.

"morning," I say, exiting so she can get ready.

she mumbles some words and I smile as I remember how my roommate hates mornings. another thing that made us different. I loved to wake up early, where Enid preferred to wake up at noon.

I sigh and change into my uniform and head down for breakfast without enid. she would be awhile and I was hungry and eager to start the day.

as I grabbed food, I bumped into Ajax and Rowan.

"hey guys," I said, "how's it going?"

Rowan smiled at me, "good Anya," he said, "its nice to see you."

I walked with the two boys over to a picnic table as we talked about our summers.

"mine was crazy," Ajax said, "stoned myself three times within a week!"

I laughed at Ajax. Enid had the biggest crush on the gorgon, but at times, he was not the brightest of the bunch. we continued to talk until a familiar voice spoke from beside me.

"you guys ready to have our brains fried for the rest of the semester?" Xavier said, sitting down beside me.

he smiled at me, and I smiled back without hesitation. what was with this man and always making me smile like an idiot?

Ajax groaned, breaking me out of my trance.

"don't remind me Xavier," he said, "I have a hard time with my brain without being at school."

I laughed and saw Enid across the quad beaconing me over.

"I gotta go guys," I said rising from my seat, "see you later."

the boys said bye to me and I made my way over to Enid. she grinned at me and wiggled her eyebrows. I rolled my eyes at the girl.

"lets go," I said, "we'll be late."

Enid laughed and we made our way over to our first class of the semester.

by the end of the week all I wanted was to collapse onto my bed and sleep forever. it had been a long week of getting back into the swing of things and collecting mountains of homework. great way to start off a semester.

"oh Anya!" Enid exclaimed, walking over to my side of the room, "its the weekend, wanna go to town?"

I groaned sitting up from my desk.

"Enid," I grumbled, "I have so much homework. I can't go to town."

the girl in front of me furrowed her eyebrows, "yes you can," she said, "and you will. I am not going alone."

I groaned and stood up, walking over to my closet.

"fuck it," I said as Enid squealed in excitement, "let me change first."

I grabbed a pair of black leggings, a cropped zip up hoodie and some converse shoes. I quickly changed and Enid and I left the school grounds.

Jericho was a nice enough town. it was quiet, had a nice coffee shop, and like most towns, full of normies. Enid and I made our way over to the weathervane for some much needed coffee.

I walked into the all too familiar scent of coffee being ground and baking being made.

"hey guys," Tyler said, the guy behind the counter, "what can I get you today?"

I glared at the boy in front of me. I knew this boy, he had done some fucked up shit. he was rude, and I did not like him, but he seemed different when we ordered our drinks.  not a good different, a strange different.

when we were done, I turned on my heal and looked around to find us a spot to sit.

oh?  I thought, looking over to see Ajax sitting in a bench by himself. this is why we came to town, I should have known.

"Enid," I said sternly, "does our trip to town have anything to do with Ajax sitting over there?"

the girls face turned a dark shade of red at the mention of Ajax's name. I raised my eyebrows and laughed.

"come on," I said walking over towards the boy, Enid on my heels.

when we got to Ajax's table, he was scrolling on his phone, looking bored.

"Waiting for someone?" I ask, causing him to look up at me.

Ajax smiled, "hey Anya," he said, "yeah sort of, but you can sit if you want."

I moved away to reveal Enid behind me.

"oh, Enid," Ajax said quickly, "I didn't see you there."

Enid, who is usually very talkative was quiet. I rolled my eyes and motioned for her to sit down. she scooted onto the bench and I sat down beside her.

Ajax immediately began shifting all of his attention towards my best friend. I sighed and pulled out my phone, not wanting to hear their chatter. it was obvious to everyone but them that they liked each other.

"third wheeling?" I heard that all too familiar voice say from behind me, a smile beginning to form at my lips.

"yes," I said turning around in my seat to face Xavier, "they haven't acknowledged my existence once."

Xavier walked and took a seat beside Ajax across from me. neither Ajax or Enid noticed, they just kept talking on.

"why are you here then?" Xavier asked me, a puzzled look on his face.

I sighed, "because Enid tricked me into thinking it was just going to be us. and of course, Ajax was here. typical, I should have known."

Xavier laughed and ran a hand through his hair which made me want to grab the collar of his shirt right there and now and kiss him like he's never been kissed before. damn he looked good today.

"Anya," Xavier said, shaking me from my thoughts, "do you want to come with me to our annual nightshades start of term bonfire out in the woods?"

I rolled my eyes, "Xavier I don't want to be apart of your stupid club," I said, "we've been over this."

its true, we had been. back when we were really close, the nightshades asked me to pledge and join them. but I don't have time for tedious groups that hang out.

the boy in front of me sighed, "but I don't want to go and I have to," he said, "its going to be boring. with no Rowan and Bianca glaring at me whenever I'm near her. please?" he asked, his eyes full of hope.

I gritted my teeth, "but wouldn't Bianca be even more pissed off if I was there?" I asked, "I am not a member, and she hates me, remember?"

Xavier grinned, "yes, but wouldn't it be fun to see the look on her face?" he asked, "plus I want you to come."

right there I could have had a heart attack. why did he want me to come? I was noting special. maybe it was just to get back at Bianca. the reason as of why, did not really bother me.

"fuck it," I said with a grin, "why not."
