"what the hell do you wear to a bonfire?" I mumbled as I rifled through my closet to find an outfit. it wasn't like I needed to look good for this occasion, I just wanted to have a nice outfit, what is wrong with that?

I sighed and turned around to find Enid looking at me with a puzzled look on her face.

"whatcha doing Anya?" she asked curiously.

"I am trying to find an outfit to wear tonight," I said grabbing a thick navy Patagonia hoodie and throwing it on over a plain t-shirt. the leggings would just have to do.

"where are you going?" she asked, "Can I come?"

shit, I thought, Enid probably wasn't supposed to know about the nightshades.

"nowhere," I said quickly, "just going to the woods to hang out with Xavier and some other people."

Enid's jaw dropped, "are you finally going on a date with Xavier?!" she asked excitedly, "its about freaking time Anya. have you seen the way he's been looking at you this last week? he is so into you. I thought you hadn't noticed, but clearly I was wrong, this is so exciting!"

my head was spinning at her excitement, "Enid just calm down," I said, "its not a date it's just a casual thing."

I grabbed a black vest and tied up my converse shoes. I looked in the mirror to find my hair a complete and utter mess.

"will you braid my hair?" I asked my roommate, "I can't go anywhere with hair looking like this."

Enid sighed and grabbed a brush, gesturing me to sit down in a chair. I did as I was told and within a few minutes, my hair was pulled back into two dutch braids.

"thank you Enid," I said checking the time, realizing I would be late, "love you bye!"

I opened the door and shut it quickly, walking fast to the quad where Xavier said we would meet.

"this is going to be awkward," I said as we neared our destination.

Xavier scoffed, "not if you make it awkward," he said, "just chill, we're going to have a good time and drink virgin mojitos until 2 in the morning."

I laughed, nearly tripping over some roots. before my face hit the dirt, Xavier caught me, pulling my back up to where I was moments before.

"thanks," I said dumbfoundedly, his hands still clutching my arms.

we were mere inches from each other and it took all of me not to kiss him. his smell was intoxicating, pine and the ocean. he didn't let go and I did not want him to.

"Xav," I whispered.

"Anya," Xavier whispered back, his face getting closer to mine.

my breath hitched in my throat, "there's something I need to-"

I was cut off by Kent and Divina running past us towards the fire.

"come on!" Kent hollered, "this way!"

Xavier rolled his eyes and I laughed. he dropped his hands and we continued down the path, neither one of us saying a word to each other.

within minutes we were standing in front of a too tall fire that was mildly concerning. all the nightshades were there and even some who weren't nightshades. this shocked me, Bianca would not be happy.

"Anya!" I heard Yoko call from beside me. I turned to face the girl who was shuffling over with drinks in her hands.

"hi Yoko," I said taking a cup from her. she handed one too Xavier and he hesitantly took the cup.
