Out of Time

Prologue

Previously in Something to Believe in"Luna?"

The browned eyed girl looked around the room. "Where am I?" she asked. "You're in a government hospital." a man said. Luna sat up and she saw the faces of two unfamiliar people. "Shouldn't I be dead?" she asked confused. "That's what the police thought when you were found." a women said.

"Who are you?" she asked. "My name is Director Nick Fury, and this Agent Romanoff. You are in S.H.E.I.L.D headquarters in New Mexico. What is the last thing you remember?" Fury asked her. She thought. "My brother killing me, but obviously he didn't." she said.

The red headed agent laughed. "Am I the only survivor?" Luna asked. "No, there were seven other survivors. Anthony Higgins, Alicia Tranior, Jack Kelly, Les Jacobs, Ryan Ballot, David Jacobs, Sean Conlon, and you Hope Higgins." Fury said.

Luna was shocked at the news. Her friends that she watched die were alive. "That's not possible." she said. "I assure you Ms. Higgins that it is very likely. There's one other like you and your friends, he woke up about two months ago." he said.

"I don't believe you, Fury. I want proof." she said, glaring at the man. Fury looked at Natasha. "You know what to do." he said. The Russian nodded her head, and walked out the door. Seconds later she came back with somebody Luna thought she'd never see again. "Race?" she asked.

The boy nodded his head. "Luna." he said, his voice cracking. She ran to her twin. "I missed you so much." he cried. "How long have you been awake?" she asked. "Almost three months. Jack was the first up." Race said. "What are we?" Luna asked.

"You are the newest breed of Super Soldiers." Fury said. "Once the corner discovered you weren't dead, he gave you a serum. I would keep you young, unless you were injured by someone you once trusted. This gave each of you special abilities. Agent Romanoff, get the others." Fury commanded.

She nodded and went to go get the others. She came back minutes later, with Luna's friends. She saw the familiar grey eyes, that she had come to love. "Spot." she said. The young boy snapped his head over to the voice that said his name.

"Luna?" he asked. She nodded her head. She ran toward her fiancee, and kissed him. He kissed back with so much love. "My eyes!" Les shouted. Luna and Spot broke apart and turned toward the 10 year old. "Come here." she said. Les ran into her arms. "I missed you." Les said. "I missed you too kiddo." Luna said.

Luna hugged all her friends, and turned to Fury. "You were saying?" she asked. "Each one of you has special powers, ones that will help you in battle if you agree to join us." Fury said. "What about these powers?" Alicia asked.

"Each of you has special powers. Once the serum was put in your body, it gave you each different and unique powers, that either fit your personality, or what you've always wanted to do." Fury explained. "What kind of powers?" David asked. "It differs between each of you. Like Anthony here, in his former life, he was a great gambler, never lost a card game. His power is the ability to never lose a fight, a game anything." Fury said.

"So what are our powers?" Jack asked. "Les, the youngest of them all. You have the power of Psychic Electrokinesis. You can generate an electrical current in a body, upon physical contact and depending on the power behind it, a target may just feel a static shock or be stunned as if touched by a cattle prod at full charge." Romanoff said.

"Jack Kelly. You've got the power of shadow manipulation. You can create or manipulate darkness, often by mentally accessing a dimension of dark energy and manipulating it." Fury explained. "David Jacobs. You have the power of Mind Control. You have the ability to alter the perceptions of others, and general ability to control the actions of others with the mind." Romanoff said. 

"Alicia Tranior you have the power of Pain Infliction. You have the ability to instill pain on someone with mere thoughts." Fury said. "Ryan Ballat you have the power of Sensory Deprivation. You have the ability to numb the senses of any individual focused on." Fury said. 

"Sean Conlon you have the power of a Copy Cat. You can take other's powers, and use them as your own. And finally you, Hope Higgins. You have the able to go into someone's head, and they'd never see. They're almost like I can feel and see what they feel and see - so it's not just you manipulating them. Everything that someone else could feel like their weakest moments, you physically go through that same experience with them. So you can, if they have the biggest, darkest fear, get to see that. You also have the power to control the elements." Romanoff explained.     

"I have one last question for you." he said. "Yea." Luna said. "We'd like you to join S.H.E.I.L.D."
