The day has come and gone, the house was still quiet meaning the kids and the rest of the family were probably at Janice's place. Easing out of the plush California king sized bed, I stretched my arms and decided to cook myself some food.
Walking out of the bedroom, I stepped into the hallway and immediately noticed the assortment of roses that was neatly placed on the stairs.

Jagged edge 'let's get married' was playing in the background. The smell of different seasonings filled my nose as I got closer to the kitchen. There was a man dressed up as a chef and Dave not too far from him sneaking a piece of shrimp.
"Look who's up." Dave ran over to me placing a soft kiss on my lips. "What's all this for?" I asked out of curiosity. "I wanted to celebrate my wife woman, is that okay with you?" He asked spinning me around to the music. He smiled at me as we stared into one another's eyes. Placing his large hands around my tiny waist we danced around the living room to the slow jams that played throughout the speakers.
"I love you so much." I looked into his gazing eyes. "I love you more ma." He grabbed my hand and led me into the kitchen.
Pulling my chair out and seating me at the table, the chef served us our food and drinks and gave us privacy. Immediately digging in, we both chanted on about how delicious the food was.

"You're so beautiful." Dave complimented me making me blush. "Thank you sexy." I replied taking another sip of wine. "I ain't gone lie I want the girls to come back home, it's all quiet and shit without them." He blurted out.
"That's you. See me on the other hand, they can can stay a couple more days." I said as we both broke out in laughter. "I got you a gift." He mentioned pulling out a jewelry box.
"Babe no!" I squealed like a teenager at the custom diamond ring before me.

"You been down for me from the very beginning, dealt with all my shit. Accepted me for who I was, it's only right I treat you to the finer things." He explained placing a soft kiss on my forehead.
The rest of the night was filled with r&b, laughs and dancing. It was absolutely beautiful being held in the arms of my lover. Dave was my favorite human and I couldn't see a life without him.
"Go upstairs, pack ya bags we getting out of here in a couple of hours." He suggested. "Where we going?" I took a step back. "Just do what daddy says and go pack ya bag for the next few days." I motioned towards the stairs.
Doing as I was told, I jogged up the stairs and started rummaging through my drawers to find things to wear. A few dresses, a few swimsuits, along with a few other pieces for a mini vacation.
Once I was done, I zipped up my small suitcase and rolled it to the top of the steps. "Dave!" I shouted seeing that a man in all black had a gun pointed at his head. Stunned at the sight before me, I stood at the top of the steps frozen.
*POW*
One shot was fired before the gunman footed towards the front door disappearing into the night. Immediately pulling out my phone to call 911, I ran downstairs to Dave's stiff body.
"Please send help!" I cried into the phone. "Baby please stay with me, please! Don't do this to me Dave please!" I wrapped myself around his bloody body.
"I....love....you." He whispered before taking one last breath. Just like that, my first love, the father of my children, my whole heart was taken away from me. Everything became numb, I couldn't feel my hands, my feet or even notice the sirens in a distance. "No! No! No!" I cried as officers pulled me off of Dave's blood drenched body.
"Please no!" I cried crawling back to Dave's body before being pulled back again. My heart was ripped right out of my chest, my world shattered into a million and one pieces seeing officers and EMTs surrounding my husbands body.
My baby was gone. My soul was crushed, I couldn't kiss him anymore, I couldn't laugh with him anymore, I couldn't make love to him anymore. It was all gone in a matter of seconds.
"Ma'am we're gonna need to take you downtown for questioning." One of the officers said with a notepad. I sat quietly against the wall as I just stared at my love, my favorite person across from me deceased. "Baby come back, you didn't get to see our girls go to college." I whispered with a face full of tears.
"My bab-!" Janice dropped everything before darting over to where Dave was. Instantly turning towards me her eyes was filled with anger. "Did you do this?!" She charged at me. "You killed my son! You evil bitch!" Officers has to restrain Janice. "Ma'am calm down or we'll have to arrest you." The officer said attempting to her to calm down. "Mommy what's wrong with daddy?" Kairi suddenly walked in.
Instantly jumping into mommy mode, I hurried up and took her back outside. "Is daddy dead mommy?" She asked with tears in her eyes. "Umm daddy's—." I immediately broke down unable to finish my sentence. "Yes baby daddy's dead, I'm so sorry baby girl, I am so sorry." I held onto her tightly.
Kairi and I both cried as the coroner pulled up to retrieve Dave's body. "Mommy I want daddy back! I want daddy back!" She kicked and screamed. "I know baby I know, but he's not coming back baby. I'm sorry, I want him back too. We have to be strong though baby, we have to get through this together." I held onto her face and look her in the eyes.
"What happened to my son Lauren?" Janice came outside with bloodshot red eyes. "I-I came downstairs and there was a guy dressed in all black with a gun to his head. Next thing you know, he shot him and ran out. I don't know Janice, I don't know! Dave doesn't include me in his shit!" I cried.
"I'm sorry for what I said back there. I was upset, I'm sorry I know you wouldn't hurt him." She pulled me in for a hug.
Her apology didn't meant shit to me at this very moment. I just wanted to get the hell away from her and grieve my husband in peace.
"Please watch after the girls for me." I said before going with officers for questioning.

Interrogation
"Let's cut to the chase." The detective walked into the interrogation room slamming a yellow folder on the table.
"We know you ordered the hit on your husband."
