◆𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐅𝐄𝐖 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐋𝐘. But there was one thing you always noticed while saying who all the letters are from. They always looked so uneasy afterwards, as if you said something disturbing. It struck you as very odd, but you ignored it. It wasn't your business. On the brighter side, you were finally on the last delivery! Then you can report back to the church and get your pay, and maybe buy some new clothes.
The birds sang and the usually trimmed grass grew higher and higher the more you go farther into the forest. The last person on your list, Valerie Waters, apparently lived in the woods and was a recluse. You wondered if she was going to be kind to you, or at least listen long enough to accept her package. The sun filtered through the leaves of the trees, and you let out a breath you hadn't known you've been holding. It was much more peaceful here than in town. The town, though the residents seem fine and trustworthy, rubbed you the wrong way for some reason. Like there was a strange vibe in the air that wasn't out here.
But that's all in your mind.. right?
You reached a forest clearing, and just like in the directions, you turned right and kept walking. You looked up, trying to spot any of the birds that were singing or maybe a squirrel. But instead.. "What is that?" Tied on multiple of the branches were small bags of.. something. You were not sure what. But they were littered everywhere, dangling down from the trees and swaying in the wind. You squinted your eyes, you could make out some sort of symbol that was on each of them. "Erm.. some type of decoration, maybe?"

You kept on walking. In the distance you could see a trailer that was white and red. The strange bag 'decorations' were covering it, them being tied on and circling around the trailer. A small farm sat next to it, and whoever planted it seemed to know what they were doing. Strange symbols were scribbled in paint all over the trailer and on the various pieces of lawn furniture that was laid out. They were also painted on the trees as well. Those bags from before were most definitely not decor.
This was presumably Valerie Waters' residence.
You nervously swallowed your saliva and knocked on the door, not sure who you're going to find. A serial killer? A cultist? A deranged recluse who went crazy from the isolation? The door slid open and-
She's a cute girl???
Of course cute girls can be deranged killers, you were just not expecting her to be so attractive. She was around 5'8, and seemed to be very nervous. Her blonde hair tied into two twin braids that laid on both side of her shoulders. Her bright blue eyes slanted down, as if sad or scared. She had a brown turtle neck sweater on and a pair of jeans. She wore a cross necklace around her neck. "H-Hello? May I help you?" "Hi, are you Valerie?" "Yes.. may I ask who you are?" "My name's (Y/N), I was ordered by Silas to deliver this to you." You held out the package and letter, and she suddenly grasped her cross necklace. She looked like she was on the verge of tears. "Ah.. I-I see. Uhm. And why are you delivering this for him?" "Oh! Well, you see.." You explained why you were helping them.
Her frown deepened. "I'm sorry you didn't know any better..." "Sorry, did you say something?" "Uhm! N-no..! It's very nice that you are helping them by doing errands.. even if it's against your will.. C-Could you maybe do me a favor?" You nodded. "Please- please throw both the package and letter out. I do not want it." "Are you sure? It's addressed to you." "Yes- yes I'm very sure. I-I apologize that you walked all the way out here, just for me to tell you to dispose of it, but I do not wish to have anything from them in my home. Very sorry for the inconvenience." "Are you on bad terms with them?" She nodded, "Very much so." "Well, if you say so. Technically I delivered it to you anyways, so I'm not doing anything wrong. Sorry for bothering you." You took a step to leave, but she quickly grabbed your arm. "W-wait! Er- Sorry, I just wanted to give you something in return for all the trouble I put you through. See it as a welcome gift, being a new resident and all. Please.. please do keep it on your person at all times, even while sleeping. It's detrimental that you do so." She handed you a necklace with a charm, the charm looking like the symbols that were painted on outside of her trailer. "Oh!", you smiled, "Thank you! I'll be sure to wear it. Here, I'll even put it on right now."
You obtained the item [CHARM NECKLACE].
"Have a good day! I'll be sure to visit sometime, as a thanks for the necklace. Goodbye!" Her cheeks flushed, "Their smile was cute.. and they were very nice.. I hope they do actually visit again."

By the time you made it back to the church, it was night out. Instead of Ambrose greeting you, it was Knell and Silas. "(Y/N)! Welcome back. I'm sure everything went well?" "Yes, I've delivered everything." "Great, let me go get your- where did you get that?" "Hm?" Knell's eyes was directed to the necklace you were given. You quickly smiled, "Oh! I was given it by the girl Valerie. She said it was a welcome to the neighborhood gift. It was very nice of her." Knell frowned and opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by Silas who put a hand on his shoulder. "Yes, it was very nice of her. Now, let us gather your payment and then you can be on your merry way. I'm sure you are eager to explore your new place of residence. We shall be right back."
After a few moments, they returned with your money, which you gladly accepted. "Thank you!" Knell laughed, "No need to thank us, your the one who did the tasks, after all." He pat your head for a moment and then you excused yourself, taking your leave. You now set off to find new clothes.

They all sat unhappily at the table, even then Silas was still smiling. Knell grimaced, "She gave them a necklace." Ambrose nodded and then sighed, "Yes, but what do we do about it?" Silas hummed, which quieted down the other two. "Let them keep it for now. It'd be suspicious if we took it from them so soon. Besides, it's not like they know what the necklace does to us.. or what we are for that matter. We can just take it from them later."

Hello! I hope you enjoyed! I'm sure you caught onto what I was hinting at at the end, even though I was sorta trying to be subtle about it. Though I'm sorta upset because this does not fit the previous writing style of last chapters, this one was more lighthearted. Either way, thank you for reading! Goodbye! <3
