Hello. This is after she ran from the château. Pretends it's old clothes on the girl running. TW. Past trauma mention of suicide. Anyways enjoy.

Elizabeth's POV
I couldn't process anything other than run.

I ran hard and fast till I could hear only the wind. I push past trees and jump over bushes and climb an overly large tree.

Few minutes later I hear a crunching on leaves and a large breath mixed with a sigh.

Matthew's POV
I crunch over the leaves and I see her head perk up, I take a breath and sigh. "Elizabeth it's me Matthew. I won't hurt you but you have to come down very slowly." She shifts in the tree and lowers herself down slowly. I scrunch my face trying to muffle the smell of adrenaline.

"Are you okay you froze up and bolted?" I question her. She nods. "That's how I died." she says softly. "You ran to hard after freezing?" I wonder out loud. She giggles "No the metal tipped cane." Her face falls. "Can I move now?" She asks. I nod. How bad was her mortal life?

"I know what your thinking about." she stares at the clouds. "What?" I ask "What your thinking about everyone gets the same face when they confront me about post cane bolting." Her eyes don't waiver from the sky.

"What happened?" I ask gently. She finally looks at me with sorrow in her eyes. "Not the best upbringing I guess." I stare at her. She lets out a forced laugh shaking her head. "I had a good life 2 years before I died.

"I had a wife and a kid, Blanca and Lukas. We were doing fine and then a sickness swept over the village. Blanca and Lukas got sick I stayed healthy. They died. So when I was building a church I was up on a rafter. I can't remember if I slipped or jumped."

"I fell and broke both my legs and my back. Ysabeau ran into the church and turned me. I sighed looking at the child.

Elizabeth's POV
Matthew's story was depressing. He had a whole family at least didn't have to worry about anyone. I look at him his eyes shows so much venerability.

"I was an orphan," I start "It was a small village so not a lot of children but enough. The keeper was a nasty old lady with a metal tipped cane." my voice quakes at the memories.

"I yelled at an adopter. (I don't know what they're called. Sorry) She knocked me with the cane till my chest caved, Miriam and Bertrand grabbed me and dragged me towards the forest and well, here I am.

"Understandable." he says.

"Not really I'm just a big wuss. At least you can probably handle heights when I hear that cane I freeze and bolt." I look at my feet.
"Bravery does not come from removing fear it comes from dominating it." (Cringey sorry it just fit the situation.) "Thanks." I mumble.

"No problem. Let's get back to the château, your mother and father are probably worried." I nod my head and follow him out of the forest and back to the château.

I was met by Maman running out and wrapping her arms around me. I hug her back tightly and and rest my head against her. When I pull away she smiles and we walk inside.

I walk the stairs to Matthew's study and grab my book. Someone knocks on the door I can tell it's a vampire but I haven't met him yet. "Come in." I mumble not looking up.

An angry looking man barges into the room. "Who are you and what are you doing in this house?!" he yells. I drag my eyes away from the book, and stare at him. He cocks an eyebrow. Fine let's play stubborn. Not a safe idea. You don't know him. What if he's an enemy?! I still stand my ground and don't say anything.

"Tell me before I rip out your throat!" he growls. I growl back, "Why you little bi-!"

"Baldwin!" Matthew yell growls.

The man, Baldwin turns to face Matthew. "Do not scare our guests."
"She won't tell me her name."
"That is no reason to threaten a guest." I sat silent through the whole argument. At one point Baldwin leaves with a grumble. "Dieu he's an complete asshole. Just one question I do not mean any offence but how does a cane scare you and not Baldwin?" Matthew asks.

"I'm not sure guess he's not that scary." I shrug. I go back to reading. "Elizabeth," I peak my head up, "Really?" he says quizzically. I bring my attention back to the book. "We'll best be off then." he leaves the room.

Miriam's POV
After Elizabeth hugged me she went back inside to her book. "Are you alright dear?" Bertrand asks. "I'm fine." I reply. He hands me a glass of red wine, and pats me on the shoulder. Baldwin comes up and starts a conversation with Bertrand. I leave his side and go to talk with Ysabeau.

"Your child is very pleasant though she needs to keep her eyes up." she says. "Thank you and yes I've noticed it too I guess to many people make her anxious." "That is quite understandable." Ysabeau replies. I nod my head and take a sip of wine.

I look up to steps from someone descending the stairs, Elizabeth is comes down with her nose in a book and little notice of the gathering around her. I excuse myself from Ysabeau and grab Elizabeth.

"Dress nice and come downstairs please." I tell her. She listen closes the book and heads upstairs to change. I make my way back to the gathering silently.

Elizabeth's POV
I closed the book and went upstairs to change.

When I was ready I reentered the salon, Pere turned towards me and offered me his arm

When I was ready I reentered the salon, Pere turned towards me and offered me his arm. I took it and walked into the so called "gathering" even though it looked like a party. Pere went over to talk to Godfrey.

I walk around the room silently when a vampire comes up to me. "Hello I'm Hugh. I'm another one of Matthew's brothers." "Nice to meet you I'm Elizabeth." I hold out my hand. He shakes it. "I heard from my brother you like to read. Is that correct?" "Yes any book is great it gives us knowledge." (Ick sorry I don't know how to word this.) I smile.

Matthew walks up behind me and places his hand on my shoulder. "Well you clean up nice." he whispers. "Thank you." The party carried on like normal and I (thankfully) didn't crash into anyone.

After the party I went back upstairs to read but to my surprise, Baldwin blocked my way.

Well finally finished this chapter took forever. And be reminded she will not fall in love with Matthew. He was just being a nice person. He's like her uncle in the story. Anyways forget about the random histories I'll tell you if there is one. 👋
