A/N: HELLO RANDOM PERSON WHO IS READING MY STORY. This is my first fanfic on wattpad so I hope you all like it! The attached image is how I picture the house to look like. Let me know what you think x

*May's POV*

I drove up to my dad's old beach house in my scratched-up red pickup truck. I looked up at the 3-story monstrosity and groaned. Could this summer get any worse? My dad sent me here to "take a vacation from school", a.k.a. become the proper, smart lady version of him he always wanted me to be. My dad is a senator and has always expected me to follow in his footsteps in politics, or go to law school, or at least be a typical housewife like my mom who keeps her mouth shut and makes pies all day or some crap. None of those appealed to me, never did. That's not who I am, but my dad's made it his mission in life to change that. I've gone through countless summer camps, guidance counselors, and tutors that were supposed to magically turn me into a straight-A student with aspiring goals to be the first woman president of the United States. Obviously that didn't happen because I'm here aren't I?

I spent the next 20 minutes carrying my luggage into the house and up the stairs. After I threw down my last bag, I just laid on the bed for awhile thinking about what I would do this summer. I heard a seagull cry outside and decided to have a look around the small beachside town.

I washed my face and changed into black and white striped bikini and black shorts. I ran my fingers through my straight brown hair and pulled it into a messy ponytail. Grabbing my aviator sunglasses and earphones from my bag, I hit the shuffle button on my phone and walked out the door, onto the porch, and down to the beach. I Feel Like Dancin' by All Time Low blasted into my ears and I looked back at the giant house behind me. This is gonna be a long summer.

About 2 hours later, the sun was setting and my feet were tired from walking around the shops all day. I was about to head home when a little shop at the end of the strip mall caught my eye. In the window was a variety of hair dyes, a bunch of different colors. I went into the shop and noticed only one other person standing there looking at the assortment of dyes. He was a pale-skinned tall boy wearing black skinny jeans and black shirt, with dark brown hair. I walked up to him, and he turned his head to look at me, then quickly returned his focus to the bottles on the shelf. I immediately noticed his light green eyes, which stood out from his otherwise monochrome fashion choices. He quickly grabbed a bottle, walked up to the cash register to pay for it, and then came back. I was still browsing through the assortment of colors.

"Can't decide?" He asked in a thick Australian accent.

"Yeah, I don't know, I've never dyed my hair before." I looked at him uneasy and he chuckled at me.

"Well I've dyed mine many times and my advice to you is go big or go home! A new hair color is a fresh start, and it's summer, so YOLO!!! Ew, I just said YOLO." He made a face and I smiled.

"I'm Michael Clifford, by the way, call me Mikey. If you ever get lonely you're welcome to stop by the bait & tackle shop whenever. I'm spending the summer there with my uncle and a couple friends."

"I'm May. Thanks for the invite." I stuck out my hand for him to shake, but he grabbed it in his hand and kissed it before I could react.

"Kay, May. It was nice to meet you. I'll see you around." He winked at me and I raised my eyebrow at how he said my name and his dramatic greeting. What was this, the '20s?

He left the shop and I quickly browsed the shelves again. This time a specific shade of red caught my eye and I figured, what the hell, YOLO! I smiled remembering Michael's joke and grabbed it off the shelf, walking over to the cashier. In this moment I decided that this summer would be a fresh start for me, like Mikey said. How bad could it really be?
