*May's POV*

My eyes fluttered open about 3 hours later and I sat up in the rocking chair I had just been sleeping in, my mind temporarily going into panic because I couldn't remember where I was. Then I remembered I was listening to music on the porch and I must have fallen asleep. The clock on my phone read 5pm. I saw a girl trying to take a selfie with one of the seagulls, until the seagull started grabbing her food and she started screaming like a maniac.

I thought about what to do next since I was incredibly bored and I remembered Michael's invitation to come visit. I walked down to the shops and found the fishing shop he was talking about. It was a 1 story, very flat and old-looking shop with fishing wires and tacky road signs hanging everywhere. I walked in and the doorbell rang when I walked in.

"Hello?" I looked around but couldn't see anybody. I was about to walk into the next room when I heard a crash and two boys came running into the room. A tall dark-haired one came zipping past me, holding what looked like a shoe in his hands. He ran into the next room and an even taller light blond boy came shortly after shouting, "Calum give me back my shoe!", before following into the next room.

"What the hell?" I muttered under my breath and turned around, jumping back when I felt yet another boy run into me. He stepped back and looked me over from head to toe. He had sandy-blonde hair and he was wearing a red tank-top with shorts and flip-flops.

"Who are you?" he asked with his eyebrows furrowed. "Get out of the shop we're closed."

"Excuse me, sorry I just came to see-"

"Well you can come back later we're closed now. Store opens at 6am tomorrow." He looked over my shoulder when he heard another loud crash in the other room, rolled his eyes, and looked back at me exasperatedly. "I'm really sorry, but I don't have time for this now. I suppose you can show yourself out?" He raised his eyebrows at me and then left out the front entrance, heading out to who knows where.

"Nice to meet you too..." I muttered under my breath. He was so rude to me! I mean he didn't even let me explain why I was there. I walked out of the shop in a huff, in search of some peace and quiet.

After walking around some more, I decided to go for another swim.

I left my bag on the beach and waded into the water. Then I started swimming and just thinking as I swam. I still couldn't believe the nerve of that curly-haired kid. I mean I get if he had to go somewhere but he could have at least let me speak. I came up for air and just as I took a breath I got a really bad cramp in my foot. I groaned and tried to move it but it hurt too much. As I shifted my leg to try to relieve the pain in my foot I felt my body sinking. I started panicking and waving my arms but that just made me sink faster and I took one last breath before sinking beneath the clear waves.

I wasn't thinking straight, so I just tried to wave my arms to try to get back to the surface but that just made it worse. My last clear thought before I blacked out was how much my foot hurt and how I was going to die alone in the middle of the ocean with no one to find my body.

I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my limp body and start dragging me through the water. I opened my eyes to see a pair of hazel ones staring back at me, but soon I fell back into a sea of darkness.

When I finally regained consciousness, my lungs and throat burned and my foot felt like someone had tried to saw it off. My eyes were closed and I could hear a faint voice in the background.

"...stay with her until she wakes up. She coughed up some water but she's still unconscious." I opened my eyes and sat up, groaning when my sore muscles protested. I was in a room about 15 square feet big, with an opening in one of the walls through which I could see the beach. I saw several life vests on the ground and realized I must be in the lifeguard house. Just as I came to this conclusion I heard the same voice behind me and turned around.

"Oh, you're up!" The lifeguard was tall and muscular, but I couldn't see his face. His voice sounded bored and frustrated, like he just wanted to get out of here.

"W-What happened to me?"

Then the lifeguard turned around and I did a double take when I saw the boy from the shop who had been so rude to me before. "You're the lifeguard?!"

"Great deduction, Sherlock!" He huffed sarcastically, and I rolled my eyes. "And, to answer your question, you seemed to have gotten a bad sprain in your foot. I wrapped it in a cast, so just try to keep it still for the next couple of days. I saw you waving your arms and swam out to save you and bring you to shore."

"You don't remember me." I glared at him and his eyebrows furrowed.

"Should I?"

"No, we only saw each other once. I came to the shop to come see Mikey but you turned me away without a second glance. I can't say you left the best first impression." I raised my eyebrows and stood up, leaning on a chair for support.

He rubbed his hands together. "Oh, yeah, now I remember. I was late for my shift and you kept pestering me." He raised an eyebrow as if daring me to reply to him.

I furrowed mine and crossed my arms. "You seem to hate me a lot for someone who just saved my life."

He stared at me for a moment and then handed me a bag of first aid equipment. "It's my job. And you'll want to reapply this cream and freshen the gauze tomorrow."

"Thanks." I muttered and grabbed the bag from him, preparing to walk out the door.

"Wait, not so fast. You won't be able to walk on that foot properly for about a month, so I took the liberty of ordering a pair of crutches for you to use. You can come by the fishing shop tomorrow to pick them up."

"Wow, thanks."

"Like I said, it's my job. Until then you can use this." He handed me a large wooden stick and I took it gladly, once again turning to leave.

"Wait, I need your name for the shipping order." I turned back and smiled.

"It's May Curtis, and yours?"

"I'm Ashton Irwin, don't forget to come back tomorrow."

"I won't. I'll see you tomorrow, Ash." I grabbed my walking stick and hobbled out the door.

"It's just Ashton!" I heard him shout behind me and I smiled.
