In 1991, Stanley Ipkiss bought a jade mask from a shop for his girlfriend Kathy until later at midnight, he puts it on and becomes a cartoony, yet psychotic killer that would be named as Big Head.He would later be gunned down by Kathy who temporarily wore the mask, but was scared of what it can do, leading to her handing it over to Kellaway who tried to use it to do some good, but ended getting twisted by it's influence as well.

The mask was worn by many people over the years and in the present day, the mask found it's way into the hands of a young man named Mark Richardson who saw it floating in the water and was curious about it's history. But unlike previous users, he never gave into it's dark influence and instead embraced it in a more positive matter, making him as the perfect host for it's limitless potential.
